Diana Nyad “Comes Out” (as Useful Imbecile or worse)
You knew it was coming. Nyad commenting on her own article in the HuffPo:
..as someone who grew up with many Cuban friends in So FL, someone who has now visited Havana some 30 times,
First off (for the brain-dead): You're not welcomed into the Castros' totalitarian fiefdom 30 times if you're not blatantly helping the regime.
"with each stroke as I head north will also be the love of Cuba, the hope that we are on both sides very close to opening our virtual doors and knowing each other day to day, nation to nation. But there is no denying that this dream, for all it is about for me, is most definitely also about Cuba.
Millions of us worldwide, but especially here in the United States, have been fascinated by the mystique of this "forbidden" island so close to our shores.
We have become raging fans of The Buena Vista Social Club, among other famous Cuban artists: painters, poets, photographers.
We have installed proud posters of Che on our college room walls.
We are aware of the advanced level of medicine and general education on the island.
From 50-70 thousand men, women and children have died horribly attempting to cross the stretch Nyad will again try to swim. (And this unprecedented horror from a nation formerly deluged with immigrants.)
Wouldn't Nyad's swim be a great way to honor those dead? She says she grew up in Miami surrounded by Cuban exile friends? Can she be oblivious to what drove them to Miami? Wouldn't her swim be a great way to focus some much-needed media attention on this "cemetery without crosses" and on the oppression that drove so many to throw themselves into the sea on craft most of us wouldn't board outside a backyard swimming pool? (And this unprecedented horror from a nation formerly deluged with immigrants.)
You have to think Nyad feels greater affection for the uniformed Cubans who welcome her in Cuba than for the ones in rags who jump on rafts.
The Berlin Wall,(who approximately 200 people died trying to cross ) has no end of commemorations. Anyone doing absolutely anything newsworthy around it immediately calls up a commemoration to its victims.
How long till Nyad starts pleading for the release of The Cuban Five?

Wait, is that Nyad or Martina Navratilova crying over getting dumped by some chick?
This leathery old has-been wants attention, and she’s latched onto the Cuba thing as a way to get it. She doesn’t give a shit about those who’ve died in the Florida Straits fleeing Cuba, and she is, in fact, mocking them, deliberately or not. She knows what’s PC and marketable, and what will get her the favorable media attention she’s after. Of course she’s a tool of Castro, Inc., which is using her like a moron that can be made to do or say practically anything. The whole thing is pathetic, starting with the old bag herself. I mean, really, she needs to get a quarter and buy some dignity. Ugh.
"... have been fascinated by the mystique of this "forbidden" island so close to our shores."
VS
"...as someone who grew up with many Cuban friends in So FL, someone who has now visited Havana some 30 times,"
"Forbidden"??? Real 'forbidden' there, Di.
Oh, and btw, apparently she's one of those who believe, somehow, Che was "Cuban".
What a totally clueless, self-indulged idiot.
