Cuban dissident Fariñas detained for 3rd time in a week  (From Fox News Lateeen-oh)

Prominent Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas has been detained in the central city of Santa Clara for the third time in the past week, his family said.

Prominent Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas has been detained in the central city of Santa Clara for the third time in the past week, his family said.

"Guillermo was arrested Thursday afternoon. He's at (a police station) and they told us he'll be there 48 hours," Alicia Hernandez, the mother of the psychologist and independent journalist, said Friday.
Hernandez said it was the third time Fariñas has been arrested in a week, as the government opponent was taken into custody for a couple of hours on Aug. 17 and then for around 24 hours on Tuesday.
She said her son's situation is "worrying" because "he is immuno-depressed, he's epileptic and he's had several operations" to correct health problems linked to 20 hunger strikes he has staged since 1996.
Fariñas, winner of the European Parliament's 2010 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought for his defense of human rights on the communist-ruled island, has been briefly detained on several occasions this year.
Separately, the spokesman for the illegal but tolerated Cuban Commission on Human Rights and National Reconciliation, Elizardo Sanchez, said dozens of dissidents have been arrested in recent days in the eastern provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Holguin, the central province of Villa Clara and the western province of La Habana.
The detainees include Jose Daniel Ferrer, who was one of 75 government opponents jailed in the Cuban government's 2003 "Black Spring" crackdown, Sanchez said, adding that his "whereabouts remains unknown" after his arrest on Thursday,
All of the members of the Group of 75 were released from prison in a process that ended last year.
Ferrer, a 42-year-old resident of the eastern town of Palmarito de Cauto and leader of the outlawed opposition group Patriotic Union of Cuba, was temporarily detained on other occasions in February, April and May.
Havana classifies most of Cuba's internal opposition as counterrevolutionaries and "mercenaries" in the service of the United States. EFE
