Guest post: Report on the Democrat convention 2012 – day two

The second report from Honey on her auto-torture session (a/k/a watching the DNC convention gavel-to-gavel):

Report on the Democrat convention 2012 - day two

Second day, same as the first, a little bit louder and a great deal worse.

The first night they consistently lied and gave immortality to the Newt Gingrich syndrome, which states that if you want to know what the left is doing, watch what they are accusing you of.

Last night they continued to lie about our side, but, while they distorted their record, they told the truth about themselves and that was terrifying. The only one who lied last night, naturally, was Bill Clinton, where he remains consistent with himself and every sentence he uttered was a bald faced lie. We all know what happened about the platform.

No longer can the democrat party be called liberal or even progressive. They played their hand full out last night. They are socialists and communists. It is all government all the time. They use the language of private enterprise, but it is only government which knows best and should control everything so all is fair. And government means Barack Obama. G-d may have been reinserted into the platform, and to prove it, they all invoked His name repeatedly. But the name you heard much more often was the real G-d for these people:

Barack Obama!

Not one word about Israel tonight. And you need ask? Not one about Cuba. So the score still remains Reps - 5, Dems - 0.

So:

"Romney doesn't know anything about hard work."

"Obama put us on the path to prosperity" - the path must stretch for an infinite number of miles because there is no light at the end of this tunnel. And I am allowed to mix metaphors when they offer this - "We want to build a society from the middle out and from the bottom up not from the top down." And I too have no idea what that means, but they must, because they used it all night long.

"Women only earn 70 cents for every dollar a man makes but Obama has fixed that." Obviously this is not a crowd who bothers to read Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams.

And before "Barack Obama [BO to save time from here on in. I don't think you will mind.] women were charged 50% more than men for their health care." No one here understands why. They think it is unfair. But not to worry. BO has fixed that, too. Before you know it, we are all going to be fixed.

"BO has taken over Pell Grants and saved many teacher's jobs." At a cost to what to taxpayers? Don't interrupt, I'm on a roll. "They see education as an expense [imagine the audacity of the Republicans to do that]; we see it as an investment."

But where do they get their seed money for this investment? Don't interrupt, I told you.

To this crowd the only measure of your kindness and "caring" a big word this evening, is how much money the government spends on it. So Obama CARES big time. "If Romney refuses to invest in 'my' future, can he really believe in America's future?" That's what one speaker actually said. And they ate it up in that crowd. "BO has invested hundreds of millions more in education. He cares and he knows that economic growth depends on education."

"BO saw that saving the auto industry was good for the shareholders..." - wanna' run that by me again? What about all those shareholders and bondholders who lost all of their investment? Don't interrupt!

"From day one BO has given small business all the help they need." Can you believe this crap? Health care - "My grandmother says that if Mitt Romney gets to help me the way he wants, she's going to have to take in ironing." Raucous laughter and applause. "That's why we need BO and a health plan where everything will be covered." Etc., etc. “I don't think your employer, your insurance company or a politician should control your health care." Someone actually said this to thunderous applause. They have no shame.

"We are fighting politicians who want to end all birth control." When you want to win an argument, why bother with truth?

The list was endless. But the theme was consistent. BO is good because he spends government money and the Reps won't do that. Not a word about where the money comes from. But from health care, to education, to business and all the rest if we do the right thing and reelect BO we will be saved forever because the government will control everything and make everything perfect. The language was of industrious people working to make good lives for themselves. But the main thrust was that without government nothing would be built or be a success. So Obama really meant what he said.

The scary thing was this audience ate up every word. And if people at home liked this, too, we are sunk forever.

The military was not ignored. No, Mrs. Obama is so cozy with military families we were told and does so much for them. But she'd better watch it. Some of her time may be done on a volunteer basis. She'd better not let that get out. And military were there to thank the Obama's for all the good that they do for military families, better than ever before in our history!

"Mitt learned all the wrong things about business." There was the usual: he closed factories and sent work overseas and made pots of money for himself as he destroyed American jobs. He did it for a good cause, to make money for his stockholders. That was a recurring theme. But then a business man told us, "In my world shareholders are teachers and construction workers." Ayn Rand, where are you when we need you? "In my world your bottom line is not what goes into their pockets, but what goes into yours. For Business owners it's the opposite. And that's the difference."

See I told you they told the truth about themselves. So profits are for sharing among all Americans, er, the government, not for the creators of a business.

"Ryan's budget does not represent our notions about the needy. We care for the 100%." Unlike those uncaring Reps. "The American Dream is not just for the few; it is for everybody." (Newtism)

"As soon as BO was elected, the leader of the Rep party announced his first goal was to defeat BO - not the reduction of our national debt and deficit [someone actually gave this as an example of their achievement], not taking care of the needy, not doing more for education, not {blah, blah, blah} but all they care about is winning for themselves. … Their idea is just to cut taxes on the richest and growth will happen magically. Well, I don't believe in magic and neither do most Americans." Applause, inc.

Then we were treated to a Nun (to show how they love religion, no doubt.) She was a one of these liberation theologists very much in sync with the socialist/marxist doctrine on parade at this convention. Her whole contribution was a variation of "We are responsible for each other." Translation, give the government all the power to take care of us.

In case they didn't make it clear yet, one speaker bragged that BO knows that if we make it, we didn't do it alone and that to move the country forward it's more about community and a belief in the common good." And if that is not a code word for giving up your sovereignty, then Americans have not been paying attention.

Then came the political cheers for Obama's accomplishments. Audacity, inc.

"BO's stimulus, which brought America back, got not one Rep. Vote. They are hoping the country will forget THEIR role in piling up a mountain of debt." Then we were gifted with explanations of how the debt was caused by Paul Ryan. I guess blaming Bush is getting old. It was all about how Ryan voted for two wars, tax cuts for billionaires with no way to pay for them. Not one word of blame for Obama for the mess we are in.

"Romney is the cause for all of these foreclosures and store closings. His idea is to let foreclosures hit bottom so the market can run its course. That's not leadership. BO has leadership and he stepped in.. {blah, blah, blah}." Yeah he stole MY money and used it for whatever he felt like spending it on and we know how well all that turned out. But no sound of those failures or the COST of every job BO saved. Oh yeah, Stop interrupting!

"Wall Street CEO's are the ones who wrecked this economy. The system is rigged against the middle class." Of course they mean the free market is rigged against the middle class, not socialism/communism.

We were offered a heartfelt bunch of socialism from Elizabeth Warren. Please let this woman lose big.

A guy from Costco was there and I didn't understand what he was trying to tell us. He and others like him have successful businesses because of Obama? He lost me. And Fluke was there to huge endless ovations. Inanities yielded tears and hurrahs. Does this stuff really work?

Important interruption!

I repeat my warning to the Republicans running this year. You cannot allow the left the false formulation that if you cut taxes, how will you pay for them. It is imperative to make it clear repeatedly that cutting taxes yields growth and more money for the government, not less. This has to be hammered home incessantly. If we allow them to win this argument, then the rest is silence for our side.

The most damaging appearances at the convention for Romney were "victims" of Bain Capital. They gave us a litany of we know some business will fail, we know how the economy works, but Romney took out loans to buy our companies and that destroyed our company and lost all of our workers their jobs and pensions and then he closed us down and reaped millions of dollars in profits for himself not caring about all of the lives he harmed. Tears and repeats of the same story for many companies. This is a charge that must be faced head on and explained by Romney or this will harm his campaign.

Back to the convention.

But the worst of the evening was Bill Clinton. The adoring crowd, (and I do mean adoring, I'm talking Elvis, Beatles, every word, every gesture was swooned over) just didn't want him to stop. Now I had just sat through almost four hours of propaganda about making us a socialist/communist country and we all know how much economic growth, freedom and fairness such a system produces. The shameless Bill Clinton goes to town. Remember what I said about their lying about our side as you read this.

So:

"In Tampa we heard a lot about how BO and the Dem. party want everyone dependent on the government, that we don't believe in free enterprise, and how bad we are for the economy. They believe that anyone who amounts to anything is completely self made. We think our country works better with a strong middle class with room for those with less to work their way into it, with a relentless focus on the future and working to promote growth and broadly shared prosperity. We believe that we are all in this together and that's a far better philosophy than 'you're on your own' ". Hysterical applause.

He actually said, "When you stifle human potential and cut off new ideas it hurts us all." He actually said that in praise of Obama and to put down our side. And "Investment (government redistribution of wealth) creates new wealth for all." Do they really believe this? Does it work?

"The far right hates our president. We don't do that." No, they are so loving and their rhetoric is so much nicer than ours. "Nazis, racists and bigots" is not nearly as bad as blaming a president for golfing instead of working with congress to fix things. Then Clinton actually said with a straight face, "Cooperation works better in the real world." He was blaming our side, not Obama. Clinton complained that because the extreme right has stolen the Rep. party, anyone who says anything positive about Obama is thrown out. Ignoring, of course, that if anyone on their side goes against the reigning orthodoxy, woe betide him.

Clinton bragged about how Hillary has helped create a world where the U.S. has more partners and fewer enemies. Fiction has always been Clinton's strongest art. Here I paraphrase: BO has the best record on foreign policy ever, encouraging partnership and inclusion, instead of like the other side where it's all a blood sport.

"When BO took office, the country was losing 750,00 jobs a month [for a few months - all the rest of the Bush administration was mostly full employment even with 9/11 and Katrina and wars. Oh, yes, "stop interrupting us with facts"] Are we doing better now?" Cheers, yes, yes, thunderous applause. "BO stopped the slide to depression and began the long road to recovery and a new American economy. "Long" was slipped in there to show he knows all is not well yet.

Clinton then stressed the voter ID, not by name, which might be too embarrassing.. "There are now efforts to make it harder for the poor and the disabled to vote." So I guess you could call the Dem convention racists, bigots and insensitive people who chose to make it difficult for the poor and disabled because anyone without a photo ID could not enter.

Then we were treated to the usual revisionist history where Gingrich and Armey never existed and Clinton was saint-like in his outstanding governance where HE balanced four budgets in a row. Not a word about how no budget from Obama has been voted on by Dems yet.

He thought it was a good thing to brag that because of BO now students paying back loans will never have to worry because their payments will only be based on what they earn. This frees them up to take low paying jobs that can serve humanity." There is so much wrong with that kind of thinking that I am choking and I can't even comment on it.

"How did I do it?" Clinton asked. "One word: Arithmetic." No mention of tax cuts, spending cuts of Reps. My one word answer? Growth.

The theme of this convention was a better world with Obama who created a model of individual responsibility and collective action that we will be following for a long time in America. Endless, thunderous applause, ladies fainting in the aisles.

Please, G-d, You may not be willingly included in the Dem platform, but come to our rescue and spare us this model for America's future.
