Cardinal, I'm not upset at all. After all, it's only a little indoctrination among friends.
Dude - it's a play. Not only that but it's a classic work of literature. The only piece of popular entertainment to not only portray a man's relationship with God in a positive light but also the Church. Jean Valjean finds redemption only after being saved by a kindly Bishop. He then sacrifices all to care for a little girl. The bad guy in all this? An official with an unbending authoritarian mindset.
If it's only a play, then why the red flag? (And I've the book so I know exactly what it's about.)

the play hews very closely to the book and the red flag was the flag used by the republicans (anti-monarchists) of the Rebellion of 1832. If they want to be historically accurate, that is the flag that they would use.
