You Have No Idea Just How Livid I am Right Now…
If you have followed me since the Babalu family adopted me and invited me to post on their blog you know I am the parent of a 12-year-old Down Syndrome daughter. Pitbull/George alerted me to this in the latest of Obama's pathetic "read-a-letter-sent-to-me" political tactic...
In its latest effort to slap Mitt Romney's "47 percent" comment, the Obama campaign on Monday tapped a young woman with Down syndrome to pull at the heartstrings of undecided voters.
The Obama-Biden campaign's web page featured a "letter of the week" from a 25-year-old woman who wrote that "I am one of the 47% of Americans who fall under Mitt Romney's definition of 'entitled' and 'unable to take responsibility for my life.' I have Down syndrome."
The letter comes on the heel of the campaign's TV ad playing in battleground states that uses the audio of Romney dismissing efforts to win over 47 percent of voters dedicated to Obama because they receive some kind of government assistance. While the Romney campaign said the context is about the election and not how he will approach the nation as president, the Obama campaign has made the case that Romney won't look out for those who need help.
Enter "Brittany" and her letter. In it, she said that she is a registered Democrat, and on assistance, which she said makes her part of Obama's 47 percent.
"My mother applied for Social Security's Supplemental Security Income program (SSI) for me when I was 19. I really want to make lots of money and have a hot tub someday, but SSI subtracts my paychecks from my SSI benefits, so I don't have much to put into a savings account," she wrote.
"I am now working for a store, folding clothes and doing returns. I like my job a lot! I make $4.98 an hour and I am allowed to work 25-30 hours a week (I have paid $542.72 in federal, FICA, state, and city taxes this year as of August 31st)," she added in a knock at Romney's other comment that many of Obama's supporters don't pay taxes.
It's full of very cute lines. "I just got my own apartment and share it with another girl like me. I get to pay rent now ($325 a month) and pay for my telephone and cable because I like the Disney Channel. I was not allowed to take my dog with me, but I can hang all of my Hannah Montana posters on my bedroom wall," she wrote.
And, she added, "I have also included my picture, not just because I'm cute, but because I wanted to give you a face of one of the 47% to share with Mr. Romney."
Blogger Jeryl Bier noticed the letter first, calling it an "exploitive cheap shot."
Apologies to The Washington Examiner for my posting their piece in full, but it needs the full context. My reaction below the fold...
I am really holding my tongue here (George can tell you my email exchange with him would melt paint off the walls), but I will say this is complete BULLSHIT! coming from Barack Obama.
This is a man who has been the most pro-abortion person in history to ever hold the Oval Office. (Do you really believe it's just all about "The Pill" with that forced HHS mandate on Catholic institutions to provide free 'contraceptives'?) From early term, to late term, to botched partial birth abortion, this man believes in abortion for any reason, at any time. Down Syndrome, as well as other "special needs" issues, has been the primary reasoning/excuse of pro-abortion activists for aborting unborn babies. I was pissed-off awhile back when I heard Obama making demonizing remarks (1:27) about Republicans wanting to slight or harm such special needs children by killing ObamaCare. The fact is, a report came out last week listing the top 5 taxes ready to be put in-play when ObamaCare takes hold in just a few months. Two of them directly hit "special needs" children and adults with new additional taxes and regulations...
The ‘Obamacare’ ‘Special Needs Kids Tax’
Tax Increase: $13 Billion
The 30-35 million American who use a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family’s basic medical needs will face a new government cap of $2,500 (currently the accounts are unlimited under federal law, though employers are allowed to set a cap).
There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are several million families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. This Obamacare tax provision will limit the options available to these families.
Hmm, I wonder where and how "Brittany" was educated, and if her parents had any say in her education choices and where the money went? If that is not bad enough, many "special needs" children (and adults) need medical devices, such as leg braces, walkers, wheelchairs, feeding tubes, etc.
The ‘Obamacare’ Medical Device Tax
Tax Increase: $20 Billion
Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. Obamacare imposes a new 2.3 percent excise tax on gross sales — even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. In addition to killing small business jobs and impacting research and development budgets, this will increase the cost of your health care — making everything from pacemakers to prosthetics more expensive.
My daughter Lizzie Rose has one ankle brace right now (and my go to two) in addition to special orthotics in both her shoes. My husband's employee healthcare covers this. And anything more there are a couple of private organizations that help cover anything leftover that the insurance doesn't cover.
Look I don't want to doubt the beautiful young woman in the article has opinions and the great independent life she describes (all the more power to her). However, if anyone honestly believes a 25-year old Down Syndrome woman actually put all that together, wrote it herself, and then sent it off to Obama at the White House all by herself ... Well then, those same believers need to explain exactly WHY they believe Down Syndrome unborns need to be aborted, because she sounds pretty smart and together to me ... not some dumb unviable lump of cells! And even if she had a lot of outside help with the letter, her life achievements to date fly in the face of the pro-abortion advocates who claim otherwise when justifying their reasoning ... Don't they, Obama???!!!??? I mean YOU would have agreed with her mother and supported her choice to abort "Brittany" from her womb.
And now you is using her...
Yeah, I am pissed. Very pissed.
