Exim bank extends line of credit to Cuba

PUNE: Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) has extended a Line of Credit (LoC) of $5 million to Government of Cuba for financing the setting up of a milk powder processing plant in Camaguey Province of Cuba.

Sriram Subramaniam, deputy general manager and regional head of Exim Bank s New Delhi Office and Abelardo Rafael Cueto Sosa, extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in India signed the LoC agreement last week.

This is the first ever LOC extended by Exim Bank to Cuba. Under the LoCs, Exim Bank reimburses 100% of contract value to the Indian exporter, up-front upon the shipment of goods/ provision of services.

With the signing of this LoC Agreement, Exim Bank has now in place 161 lines of credit, covering 75 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe, Oceania and the CIS, with credit commitments of over $8.49 billion, available for financing exports from India.

The main items that India exports to Cuba are pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals, vehicles other than railway or tramway, organic chemicals, rubber manufactured products, and plastic products.

The main items that India imports from Cuba are tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes, vegetables, fruits, nuts and their preparations, pharmaceutical products, leather, raw hides and skin.

  1. What can I say professor, there is a sucker born every minute. These Indians at Exim Bank are the next ones inline for this lesson as they will eventually be conned by the Castro brothers failing to make payments on that loan.

    Come to think of, five million dollars is pocket change compared to all the money the Castro brothers have stolen or failed to repay their creditors.

    Just ask the former Soviet Union…
