“Father Doesn’t Have a Clue”

"Sorry Dad, but says here you guys are history."

A long, long time ago in a place quite closeby Caucasian males with immense financial and familial responsibilities did most of the voting. Movies and commercials actually portrayed them as other than boobs and bumblers extraordinaire. And an immensely popular TV show was named (unironically) "Father Knows Best."

(not that Looooocy and Alice Kramden and Wilma Flintstone were pushovers! In fact they probably dished it out better than their husbands.)

That was then. That was the land our parents and grandparents gratefully recall that "nos abrio los brazos."

Oh, I know, I know...Patricia Heaton is one of us, conservative, Republican and all that but that look of hers whenever addressing her male co-stars typifies (for me) the popular culture's female chauvinism. Lucy and Alice and Wilma managed it more slyly and effectively.

Unreal.

There are multiple possible groups who could be credited with Obama's re-election. They all voted for him by wide margins, but as I see it, the key group was non-minority women. It was a given that, regardless of logic or reason, certain other groups would go for him, but these women could easily have voted for Romney (yes, I know, everyone could have, even blacks, especially since we have a secret ballot, but reality is what it is). So why did they go for Obama? What was so compelling to make them do so? Are we truly surrounded by lunatics?
