Reforms in Cuba… Castro style!

All the "Cuba Experts" agree: With its much ballyhooed reforms, the brutal and repressive dictatorship in Cuba is moving towards allowing more economic freedom for the practically non-existent private sector on the island. And just how will these reforms be carried out? But of course, under the watchful eye and stern fist of the brutal and repressive dictatorship of the Castro brothers.

Raúl Castro creates two permanent commissions to boost economic change

In a clear attempt to reinforce state control over economic development, leader Raul Castro has ordered the creation of two permanent commissions to direct the Cuban business sector and provide a boost to the reforms launched within the country's government framework.

Through Law-Decree 295 from the State Council, the Governmental Commission for Business Improvement (GGPE) and the Executive Commission for Business Improvement (GEPE) are created, both under the total control of Castro.

The document was published in the Gaceta Oficial No. 51 this past November 7th and and became fully operational with the help of two decrees from the Council of Ministries (302 and 303/2012), both of which contain details regarding the structure, organization, and functions of the new commissions directing the economy.

These commissions are large legislative bodies that operate within the "structural changes" announced by Raul Castro in February of 2008 from his official position as head of the government.
