Danny Glover defends the Cuban Five at Howard University forum
Yeah. He's at it again. Ñangaroid thespian and charter member of the Hug-a-Dictator Club Danny Glover made an impassioned plea for "justice" at Howard Univesity, calling for the release of the five Castroite spies imprisoned in the United States.
At this forum, which was attended by about 200 people, several others spoke too. As one might expect, the Ministry of Truth in Havana is trying to blow up this propaganda fest as a major news event. Its online web site CubaSi reports:
Committee coordinator Gloria la Riva exposed the antecedents of the case of the five Cubans and she explained that Gerardo Hernandez, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and René Gonzalez defended their country from terrorist attacks. The Five were victims of political persecution unleashed by the US administration, said la Riva.
Among the speakers was defense attorney for the Five Martin Garbus who referred to the wrongdoings of the US government, which paid journalists in Miami to influence the jury and have the Five convicted.
Meanwhile, ex-colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, who headed the cabinet of former secretary of State Colin Powel between 2002 and 2005, denounced the serious injustice committed with the Five since they were arrested on September 12, 1998.
If you need to purge yourself of Thanksgiving excess, watching a video of Glover's revolting talk might do the trick.
Yeah. Nothing pleases the Ministry of Truth more than a panel of its minions and a university auditorium full of useful idiots. Except, perhaps, for the sight of some celebrity hugging one of its dictators, or of two of its most useful idiots French-kissing. So uplifting. Yeah.

The best type is comedy is always the subtle kind.
Glover is trying to do a Belafonte, and one can see why. Career fading? No chance of regaining brief former success level as an entertainer? Facing footnote status? No problem. Try radical political activism--but make it loud, brash and angry, all the better to ensure notice and get credit as “passionate,” “committed” and “courageous” (though it would only be courageous if it were right-wing activism--being a radical leftist is FAR safer).
Belafonte, however, had a considerably better gig: American racial issues. Shilling for over-the-top leftist third-world dictators may be better than sitting around waiting for your agent to call, but it’s not the same. No doubt it plays well enough in Hollywood, but the audience for it is much more limited. Still, it IS a gig, as opposed to waiting for Godot.
It is truly amazing how low some will stoop, not to mention how much mileage they can get out of it.
