Lady in White imprisoned for past 8 months is injured and being denied care
Lady in White Sonia Garro Alfonso and her husband Ramon A. Muñoz were arrested this past March, 2012, during an operation carried out by riot police at the couple's home located on Avenue 47 in Marianao. Several others were also arrested but those individuals were released hours later.
Elaine Bocourt, the daughter of Garro and a minor, witnessed the arrest of the married couple and remains in the care of her aunt, Yamile Garro.
In a conversation with Martí Noticias, the young girl stated that she visits her mother at the El Guatao prison every Thursday and that "although she tells me she is alright, I know that is not true." The girl is worried about state of health in which she found her mother this past Thursday, November 29th.
According to Yamile Garro, during this last family visit, they were able to ascertain that she is recovering from a burn that was not treated correctly since she was not given medication for the required time.
"She has a wound on her head that is swollen because it was not treated correctly and has now become infected," said Elaine.
Sonia Garro Alfonso and her husband Ramon A. Muñoz were accused of public disorder and attempted murder. Police authorities have kept them imprisoned and no date has yet been set for their trial.
It's beyond obscene that the foreign media that operate in Cuba would say one single fucking word about obese dancers or giant bicycles while essentially ignoring this kind of story. I know perfectly well why they do it, but it’s still amazing to see such abject prostitution from people who routinely claim, with a straight face, that they “speak truth to power.” They’re hypocritical whores, or worse.
