Cuba “Expertise” from Walter Russell Mead: “The LAST thing Castro wants…!”

"The last thing (the Castro regime) wants is to see the island overrun by partying gringos while wealthy Cuban Americans buy up choice properties and make investments that give them a major stake in the island’s future."
Right. And "the last thing" Scarlett wanted was to be carried up those stairs.
If Mead omitted the word "last" he'd be right. For the simple reason that it's happening. Ask the 400,000 travelers to Cuba from the U.S. last year...ask Saladrigas.
Here was Mead's clairvoyant expertise 2 years ago:
"If Cuba continues to release political prisoners — to the Catholic Church and social-democratic Spain rather than to the Yankees,...the brothers may be sending another message...They will cut back on the political repression..."
The U.S. kept open the floodgates of travel, remittances and general be-niceness. Result?
Arrests, Arrests and More Arrests...This year, the average number of documented political arrests -- thus far -- is 549 per month.
Compare that to an average of 343 political arrests per month in 2011 and 172 arrests per month in 2010.

Typical Cuba "Expertise."
