Quote of the day
Esperanza Aguirre, president of the People's Party in Madrid, call on Spaniards to commit to the democratization of Cuba and “take on” the dictatorship of the Castro brothers (via dfwcatholic.org).
“I want to say very loudly and clearly that for the citizens of the western countries, for all the citizens of the democratic countries that share the same cultural roots and the same moral and political values, the existence of the Communist dictatorship in Cuba is a reason for embarrassment and a call to our sense of freedom and responsibility.”

The world which claims to revere human rights decided long ago that totalitarianism was OK for Cuba. Said world, of course, is full of shit, but it is what it is, and it's a waste of time to expect better from it. Either Cubans themselves liberate Cuba, or it's not happening.
The free world talks one way and acts another, or it certainly acts selectively. Even with an extreme, Bizarro-world situation like North Korea, it is never as passionately and vehemently negative as it is with a right-wing dictatorship which may well be relatively less oppressive and less inhuman. The hypocrisy or double-standard is quite obvious, but it's perfectly PC, so it's treated as normal. This is not going to change in the foreseeable future, so don't bother expecting any different.
Aguirre's statement applies triple, at least, to Spaniards--not that most of them care.
