Hugo Chavez battles lung infection

Ernesto Villegas, Venezuela's Minister of Communication and Information revealed yesterday that President Hugo Chavez developed a severe lung infection after his six-hour surgery, but the infection is now "under control," thanks to the vigilance of his cracker-jack medical team.  According to Villegas, Chavez is now in "stable" condition and under strict orders to maintain "absolute rest."

The Information Minister reiterated that his office is committed to speaking frankly about the President's condition and keeping the Venezuelan people up to date on all aspects of his recovery.

In related news, President Obama has sent a get-well card to Chavez, paying tribute to his sense of style with a photoshopped image (see below).  Ernesto Villegas has let it be known that Chavez responded by saying, "get your own parrot, copycat."
