In the 2008 election the MSM was just getting its feet wet in the Obama septic tank. In 2012 they jumped full-in and swallowed and spewed some of the most vile and dishonest tripe in modern MSM-political history. They did everything in their power to campaign so hard for Obama’s re-election that it was ludicrous for him to have spent the amount of money he did for TV campaign ads.
It is obvious we all are aware of the impending “fiscal cliff” and “Taxmageddon” just weeks ahead while the GOP leadership looks for ways not to get blamed by the democrats and their lapdog MSM for anything that will go wrong … even eating their own … and that troll Harry Reid refuses to bring the much insisted upon Obama plan to the senate floor for a vote. Maybe it is because it’s just too craptastic for the senators to gaze upon … again. As we are reminded, Obama’s best laid plans are rotten eggs with the US Congress, but Granny Botox can’t seem to recall that fact.
But back to the Obama-slobbering MSM.
So, what do you do if you made a serious run for POTUS, and genuinely wanted to bring your successful business experience to the economically troubled country with an over-bloated and gluttonous government in order to right this sinking ship, but lost to the cool guy with all those sparkly celebrity pals, and all that free stuff to pass out to the voters? You return to your private life, right? Take some quiet time with the family to regroup and decompress from being called every disgusting name in the book by the Obama media and the democrat party. Maybe look for a job where you can bring your experience and ideas to be productive. Well, apparently that has just flabbergasted WaPo’s Dana Milbank. He can barely contain his shock and horror that Mitt Romney dares become a private citizen. How dare Romney NOT just barge into Washington D.C. and hand Obama and the Congress the answers to all our problems … or something…
The nation is heading toward the “fiscal cliff,” but have no fear: Mitt Romney is coming to the rescue — of Marriott International Inc.
In his first public comments since election night, the defeated Republican presidential nominee issued a statement Monday announcing his next step. An appeal to national unity? A charitable initiative?
No, he announced that he was rejoining the hotel chain’s board of directors. “It is an honor to once again be able to serve in the company of leaders like Bill Marriott,” said Romney’s statement, distributed by Marriott.
It was emblematic of the tone-deaf, I-have-some-great-friends-that-are-NASCAR-team-owners moments that contributed to his loss. The country is in a crisis, political leaders in a standoff, and Romney is joining his buddy’s corporate board.
Romney is a private citizen now and free to do as he chooses. But it’s not as if he needs the money; the $170,000 in cash and stock that Marriott directors received in the most recent year reported is but a sliver of the $20 million or so Romney takes in annually from his investments.
More to the point, Romney’s first post-election move served to confirm the exhaustive report my Post colleague Philip Rucker did on Romney’s “rapid retreat into seclusion.” Rucker, who covered the Romney campaign for this paper, wrote that in the former candidate’s disappearance he is “exhibiting the same detachment that made it so difficult for him to connect with the body politic through six years of running for president.”
Romney’s post-election behavior has been, in a word, small…
Yeah, he goes on with cheap stabs at Romney’s wealth and wealthy lifestyle, homes and recreation. Shocking, I know. Imagine that, Romney spending his own money and his own time. By the way, you have heard the Obamas will be spending something like $4 million and twenty days in Hawaii for Christmas vacation. I’m sure he/they would send out “Thank You” cards to the American taxpayer for that, and the next four years of comfort and joy in our house, but postage is just too damned high these days. Anyhow, Milbank has the audacity to go into some half-assed, insincere thrusting of weight onto Romney’s shoulders to now swoop in and repair the republican party…
It’s understandable that Romney would now feel like shrinking from the scene: He offered the people a choice, and they chose otherwise. But this is a crucial time for the country and particularly for Romney’s Republican Party, which must unshackle itself from the far right or become irrelevant.
Why?!? By the way, notice we NEVER hear the media ever refer to the far left of the democrat party? Anyhow, why bother exterminating the Republican Party’s far right now? The country and its reality show mentality voters that decided they’d like to try a load of big government, big taxes, big regulations Obama socialism, like a spoonful of bad acid, have safely been delivered into the armpit of the party of free stuff and class warfare.
When Romney met Obama at the White House last week, the administration released a statement noting the menu (white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad) and saying the two men “pledged to stay in touch, particularly if opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future.”
Shared interests? Shouldn’t keeping the nation out of economic calamity qualify as one of those?
You would think so, Mr. Milbank, but you must not have been paying attention during the campaign. Mitt Romney’s plan was 180 degrees opposite of Obama’s agenda. Obama wanted the job. You wanted Obama. Mitt Romney has moved on. Or as Obama has been known to say, “The election’s over…”. Romney is a serious businessman. Obama is serious about giving this country the business.
It is not respectable for Reid to be a US senator, even from Nevada. There must be someone else who can at least fake it better. He might as well have HACK tattooed on his forehead. It’s not just that he’s useless, which is bad enough, but that he obstructs any progress (es como el perro del ortelano, que ni come ni deja comer). To add insult to injury, just looking at him is dyspeptic. I mean, are Nevada voters THAT out of it?
