Chavez death watch: life-support about to be unplugged ?

chavez-hugo-quimio

Is Hugo Chavez lingering on a respirator, in an  induced coma ?

ABC Spain reports that Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez is in critical condition, and that he is about to be disconnected from the respirator that is keeping him alive.  His condition is so fragile and painful that he has been placed in an induced coma.

Among other details revealed:

His lung infection has not responded to antibiotics.  He is in a constant fever.  He cannot breathe on his own.  His kidneys are failing.  Surgery only managed to remove some of his cancer.  Surgeons removed 43.4 centimeters of his small intestine, but the cancer has spread to his bladder, his spinal column, and his bones.  A bone marrow transplant is out of the question due to his fragile condition.

When he is disconnected from the respirator, he is not expected to survive.

Maduro--644x362

Or are  reports of his imminent demise spun by hate-filled lunatics ?

In the meantime, however, ABC also reports that Venezuelan vice-president and dictator-in-the-wings and Saddam Hussein look-alike Nicolas Maduro assured the Venezuelan people that Hugo Chavez is conscious and fighting hard against the odds.

According to Maduro, Chavez still has a firm handshake and is fully aware of the "complexity" of his condition.  "We are confident that he will continue to improve and pull out of this complex postoperative condition," said Maduro.

Though he is required by Venezuelan law to make public specific details concerning the president's condition, Maduro refused to go into specifics.  Commenting on those who have issued less optimistic reports, Maduro said that such news come from "mentally ill people who are full of hate."

Maduro returned to Venezuela from Havana on tuesday, 1 January, and will resume his duties as vice-president on Wednesday, 2 January.
