Belchings from My Overfed News Feed
The Democrats gun grab efforts proceed at a furious pace, and to no surprise they’re playing the Rush Limbaugh card. Don’t they ever tire of this silliness?
They want to keep “military-style” weapons out of the hands of criminals by attacking the rights of law-abiding gun owners. They also pretend Republicans are against stopping gun violence, which is preposterous; although the GOP needs to clearly articulate this position and not let them get away with this idiocy.
And CNN's Piers Morgan says this isn't a left and right thing. Hell you say! Those crazy-assed paranoid gun clingers...
Nothing to see here. Move along...
Robbers stabbed a clothing store employee and sexually assaulted another during an hours-long hostage drama that ended early Friday with a police SWAT team surging into the shop and rescuing 14 workers.
No robbers were found. Police were seeking at least two men and also were trying to determine whether a car found abandoned in neighboring Culver City was the getaway vehicle.
Good thing none of those clothing store employees had a gun, huh?
The second wave of shock and awe as the tax tsunami hits the two week paycheckers today...
One of the worst flu seasons in a decade is putting further strains on an already sluggish U.S. economy as companies get slammed with increased health care costs and lower productivity from widespread worker absences.
On average, seasonal flu outbreaks cost U.S. employers $10.4 billion in direct costs of hospitalization and outpatient visits, according to the Centers for Disease Control. That doesn't include the indirect costs related to lost productivity and worker absenteeism.
But this year, that figure is expected to go much higher, as the flu virus has shown up in some 41 states with 29 of them reporting high or severe levels of sickness as thousands are flooding into hospital emergency rooms and doctor's offices.
Wait, I thought, using democrat logic, stuff like more folks on food stamps and welfare and extended unemployment were good for the economy. But people with the flu spending money on doctors, hospitals, and medicines isn't good for the economy? And on that observational note...
AP via The Chicago Sun-Times: "Jobless claims tick up slightly, show signs of stability"
Weekly applications for U.S. unemployment benefits ticked up slightly last week, the latest sign of stability in the job market.
The Labor Department says applications rose 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 371,000, the most in five weeks. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, increased 6,750 to 365,750, after falling to a four-year low the previous week.
Just lovin' that "new normal", aren't you? It's all good.
Americans for Tax reform: "Braces for the Kids Just Got More Expensive: Obamacare Tax Hike Case Study"
In 2013, the tax increases in Obamacare will increasingly conspire against kitchen-table family healthcare decisions.
As just one example, below are some of the taxes that will impact the purchase of dental braces:
Obamacare Medical Device Tax: As of Jan.1, Obamacare imposes a new tax of 2.3 percent on medical device manufacturers, including those who make dental braces. The tax is imposed on gross sales -- even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. While the tax will be paid to the IRS by the manufacturer, the tax will be passed along as a higher cost of the product, ultimately to be borne by the parent buying the braces for their child. With the cost of braces being as high as $7,625 this new tax could raise the cost of these braces by $175.
But that's okay because I'm sure "middle class" Obama voters do not put braces on their kids' teeth. It's just those filthy rich conservative republicans who do, so they're safe...
Yesterday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and city officials unveiled a new initiative to limit supplies of prescription painkillers in the city’s emergency rooms as a way to combat what they described as a growing addiction problem in the region. Some critics, as documented by The New York Times, however, felt the move would unnecessarily hurt poor and uninsured patients who use emergency rooms as their primary care doctor. Needless to say, Mr. Bloomberg was not swayed by this line of argument.
“The city hospitals we control, so…we’re going to do it and we’re urging all of the other hospitals to do it, voluntary guidelines...
First he came for your trans fats. Then your salt. Then your smokes. Then your holy Ground Zero. Then your baby formula. Then your Big Gulps. Then your guns (again). Now your pain pills. His own statement should be loudly echoed as to "The State" giving and taking away (in total control of) anything and everything YOU get from it. Take this as an example of things to come under ObamaCare.
National Journal: "5 Reasons Why Obama Isn't Ready for Rushmore"
I'm not grabbing any of that. The writer believes Obama's is almost there, but just not quite yet. You click the link if you need to. Mmmkay?
Appearing on the January 10 Martin Bashir program to discuss concerns being expressed by many in Washington — predominantly on the Left — that President Obama’s second-term Cabinet will be less diverse in terms of race and gender than his first term, MSNBC contributor Goldie Taylor took the opportunity to attack minority and women appointees of the George W. Bush Cabinet as self-hating minorities.
“I am much less concerned about the look of the Cabinet than I am the shape of this president’s policies. I think that it’s important to add that presidents like George Walker Bush, you know, had people like [Labor Secretary Elaine] Chao and [Commerce Secretary Carlos] Gutierrez and [Secretary of State Condoleezza] Rice and [HUD Secretary Alphonso] Jackson and [Education Secretary Rod] Paige in his Cabinet, all cultural minorities and women alike, but all very, very dangerous to diverse communities,” Taylor insisted. This isn’t the first time Taylor has taken to MSNBC to excoriate a conservative who happens to be a member of a racial minority as self-loathing.
Yes, my Cuban-American Babalu family knows this sort of inane and insane political prejudice first hand.
During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi today in Cairo, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi extended an invitation to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to attend an Islamic summit scheduled for February 7th in Cairo, Gaza-based Palestine Today reported.
The summit is expected to address the “Palestinian cause,” the Syrian crisis, combating poverty, the situations in Afghanistan and Somalia as well as Islamaphobia.
Salehi also announced that he had extended an invitation on behalf of Ahmadinejad for Morsi to visit Tehran.
What could go wrong? Perhaps this video will give a hint. Imagine the mouse as Israel and the the other player as the growing Islamic influences in that region ... and the military guy (sorry dude) would be Obama's ongoing throwing Israel under his bus to fend for itself...
