On Flaky Logic and Neocolonialist Images
Jeff Flake apparently knows nothing about the tourist tsunami that has been flooding Castrolandia for the past few years. Girls-Gone-Wild co-eds and drunken frat boys have been there for quite a while, enjoying la vida loca, while nothing changes for the Cuban people.
The offensive photo above, a nauseating example of neocolonialist kitsch, is proof positive of Flake's flaky logic.
The second item missing from Flake's field of vision is that other see-saw tsunami: the Cuban "exiles" who travel back and forth, and flood the island with dollars and merchandise.

Suggested meditation: contemplate the photo above. Soak up the imagery. Then, imagine this: a travel agency advertisement from 1943, showing a group of very happy Canadian and American tourists in a Volkswagen convertible, with the Brandenburg gate in the background, fully decked out in Nazi regalia. Yeah. Visualize that.
