21st Century Chicago’s Murder Rate Worse Than “The Roaring 20′s” Capone Era
Right now Chicago has some of the nation's strictest gun laws, with more legislation constantly in the works, and leads the country in murder rates. Fully "automatic" assault weapons are currently banned in the USA, and have been since the mid-1980s. During the Capone era "Tommy guns", or (sub-)machine guns, were not only NOT banned, but were in use by the organized crime groups. These groups were also working stridently against law enforcement, and even infiltrating the authorities. So, what's changed? Seriously.
ABC Local Chicago: "Chicago murder rate far worse than during Al Capone 'gangland' days"
Obama began the gun control tour leg of his un-ending political campaigning today in Minneapolis. For months since the White House jumped on the Sandy Hook grade school shooting new gun control laws "banned"-wagon, the White House has yet to address, or be seriously asked, about the murder rate in his hometown. So much so that Obama-supporter Jesse Jackson has joined the debate with a suggestion Obama personally come to Chicago and bring the Department of Homeland Security to patrol the streets of Chicago to halt the violence...
Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson and relatives of victims of fatal shootings in Chicago urged President Barack Obama on Saturday to come back to his hometown and address the gun violence plaguing the city.
Before a march on the city's South Side, Jackson, a former Democratic presidential candidate, said America's third most populous city needed more help than Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police superintendent Garry McCarthy could offer.
"When the president shows up, it shows ultimate national seriousness," said Jackson, a Chicago resident. He also called for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to help patrol the streets of Chicago.
I doubt the DHS will follow their own official instructions for the rest of us, and come armed with scissors only.
From a henchman of "murky" backgrounds comes an op-ed by Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel, "Cleaning up the murky world of gun ownership" ... Always in the patent lead-from-behind stance, Emanuel is pulling roughly 200 Chicago police out from behind various administrative desks and back onto the mean streets where the hot spots are said to be. From pushing papers and pounding computer keys, to pounding the pavement amid flying bullets. Hey, let's be careful out there, huh?
