Those “NON-White” Cuban-Americans (the sequel to the sequel)

cruz

"Apparently, the "Washington Post" and "New York Times" don't like the idea of a non-white U.S. Senator acting all uppity. It's fine for the lily-white Elizabeth Warren to immediately come out guns blazing, but over the past couple of days both news outlets ripped into in Texas Senator Ted Cruz for not knowing his place."

From Breitbart (no less.) And they even include a picture to demonstrate his "NON-whiteness!"

From the Daily Beast:

"Rubio put a kind, nonscary (and nonwhite) face on a party dealing with an image problem—and seemed to have dry mouth with his reach for water."

Marco_Rubio_speech_drinking_from_water_bottle_20130213015046_320_240
"Hey! Sure dat wasn't tequila or Colt 45 in dat plactic bottle?"

From the Wall Street journal a few months ago:

"Mr. Cruz's triumph also shows the degree to which the GOP now has a growing number of nonwhite rising stars."

From The Onion (attempted satire from these ultra-educated ignoramuses at Senator Rubio's expense)

Rich White People Get Latino Guy To Do Some Work For Them. WASHINGTON—Faced with a menial and unappealing task they had no desire to perform themselves, a group of wealthy white people brought in a Latino man to complete the thankless labor for them Tuesday, sources confirmed. “This opportunity—to make it to the middle class or beyond no matter where you start out in life—it isn’t bestowed on us from Washington,” said the Hispanic guy, who was given explicit instructions and was warned by the privileged, affluent Caucasians not the part that counts.)

And who can forget the notorious miscegenist Lucille Ball? From The HuffPo last year:

desi-arnaz-1236953

"in a time when Latinos and people of color in general were largely absent from television, Arnaz was an unlikely television pioneer.

Folks, fact is, we make attractive gigolos for BOTH parties. Republicans can show us off on their arms: "SEE--SEE! we're not afraid of non-whites!"..Democrats can show us off on their arm: "SEE?--SEE?! we're not afraid to BASH people of color when they deserve it!"

And speaking of Gigolos...here's our theme from the eminently "white" Louis Prima:

louisLouis-Prima1

The most direct roots of this "non-white" nonsense can be traced to the fact that the United States has had virtually no immigration from Spain, and that the contact Americans have had for three centuries with Spanish-speaking people has been largely limited to Mexicans of indigenous descent, who tend to be dark-skinned. But the roots of this problem can be traced further back to the Old World itself, where Northern Europeans refused to consider Southern Europeans "white." This applied to Spaniards, Italians, and Greeks, and even to the French. Never mind that the French themselves considered the Spanish to be Africans (as they like to put it: "Europe ends at the Pyrenees.") Of course, for a long time Jews also fell into the non-white category. Al carajo con todos estos cabrones....

    Prof. Eire,

You have a point there. This "non-white" nonsense can be traced to the type of Hispanics that Americans have had contact with for the last three centuries: mostly Mexicans of indigenous descent. Nevertheless, I think that what really clinched the deal was the 60's and 70's when radicalized "Latino" groups with a leftist mindset fashioned themselves after the black civil rights moment and started demanding affirmative for all "Latinos" who were after all "brown." You had groups like ATZLAN, Maldef, National Council of la Raza, Young Lords, etc... protesting in the streets with their fists up in the air. The mainstream media started covering these protests. Then in the early 70's, there was a Mexican-American congressman who was upset with the way that anytime a Mexican committed a crime, the newspapers would mention his background. So, in order to stoph this, he proposed legislation that instead of mentioning Hispanics by their nationality, they would simply be called "Hispanics." Up until then, Cuban Americans were considered different. As soon as the media started calling us all Hispanics [this would eventually evolve into "Latino"], people would see no difference between Hispanics of any nationality.

It's gotten so ridiculous that Lucille Ball is now considerd a race mixer. Back in the 1950's, Desi was considered white.

  • Every chance I get I utterly refuse to answer the racist question of what my "race" is. It is totally irrelevant to any economic (or social) activity. Any thinking individual should do the same.

  • So, Rubio isn't one of those White Hispanics that the New York Times created after the Trevon Martin shooting?

  • Gigi

Washington's leftist establishment - both parties included - can't stand the likes of Rubio or Cruz, because they shatter the sterotype they've been peddling to us for decades. Plus, they don't like real men when they see one. Don't Mess With Te.....d

George-Next time you are asked, do what I once did-look them straight in the eye, and with a solemn nod, say "I'm black". You might enjoy the reaction you're likely to get.

    • It's ridiculous! The first ones who should be telling these folks to stick it are blacks and the "brown" people. It's none of anybody's business. This is what contributes to the Balkanization of America into disparate warring factions instead of one "American" nation.

  • asombra

There's really no point dignifying this sort of BS with a response.
