The Cuban Show

I was reading the comments on Enrisco’s musings that Alberto posted earlier and came to a startling realization.  The commenter talks about the abdication of personal responsibility as the major disgrace of Cuba’s “social experiment.”  Social experiment.  Hmmm.  That’s really what it is.

Today 11 million people live in an antiquated laboratory that’s been running an experiment for 54 years even though the theories the experiment was supposed to prove have all been falsified.

My mind jumped to the 1998 Hollywood movie, The Truman Show, where the main character lives in an idealized world that’s really a giant set for a TV show. Everyone knows, of course, except him. It’s an experiment that’s too cruel to even think about, despite the fact that Truman had healthcare and education (the real kind).

Who gave fidel castro and his little brother the right make the Cuban people into guinea pigs?

It becomes very easy to understand why many Cubans are ill suited for life outside the lab.  And sad.

  1. Who gave the Castros the right to use the Cuban people like guinea pigs? Henry, you know who. That’s like asking who gave the chavistas the right to screw over Venezuela, or who gave the Dems the right to ram Obamacare through Congress and into law. The problem is that the answer to those questions is a real bitch.
