Ros-Lehtinen Looking Forward to Participating in Next Week’s Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Hearing on the Castro Regime’s Proliferation Activities

“Not enough attention has been given to the Castro regime’s proliferation activities and the very real threat they represent to U.S. national security interests”

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, will participate Thursday in a Western Hemisphere Subcommittee hearing on Cuba’s recent history of proliferation. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“I look forward to participating in next week’s subcommittee hearing on proliferation activities in Cuba, a U.S.-designated State Sponsor of Terrorism. Not enough attention has been given to the Castro regime’s proliferation activities and the very real threat they represent to U.S. national security interests. The most recent known instance of this criminal activity occurred earlier this summer when a North Korea-bound vessel leaving from Cuba was seized in Panama and found to be carrying illegal missile equipment. This violation of international laws and the ensuing report demonstrate how the Castro regime continues to brazenly lie about its activities.

“I look forward to asking the witnesses about Cuba’s cooperation with North Korea as well as with the rogue regimes of Iran and Syria. The Castro tyranny continues to aid and abet America’s enemies and poses a security threat which responsible nations are obliged to address.”
