  • asombra: Not to worry. Latrines do as Latrines are.

  • asombra: It is indisputable that both Castro II and “Che” were communists before 1959, and everything points to the same...

  • asombra: Not blind, just “resolviendo,” or trying to.

  • asombra: Doesn’t Fidel look like real military to you? No? He shouldn’t. And is that Ru Paul next to him? You go, girl.

  • asombra: Does he? No more than Chávez did. Next to Ecuador and Nicaragua, Honduras looks mighty fine.

Socialismo o Muerte?

Obama Handshake

Ramón Sánchez Parodi , a long-time head of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington, indicated recently that the Cuban Government has given up on President Barack Obama to restore the normalization of relations between the United States and Cuba. He’s even given up on the Democrats, and looked up to the Republicans to make it happen.

There are two things that the Cuban authorities really want for the normalization of relations between the two countries to take place. The first one is entirely a propagandistic one – the elimination of the alleged U.S. policy towards Cuba whose goal is “to restore its domination” of the Caribbean island. But the second thing on its wish list is the real prize of the negotiations – to get rid of the ban on U.S. citizens traveling to Cuba. So, it’s not ideology that the Cubans are worried about. It’s the good old U.S. dollars that they are after.

And now we know the rest of the story about the silly slogans like “Socialism or Death.” The real slogan is “U.S. Dollars or Death.” Well, so much for Marx and Lenin!
