Today we bring you two quotes of the day and both of them from the leaders of Venezuela’s pro-democracy opposition.
The first, Maria Corina Machado in Martí Noticias (my translation):
“The struggle we are undertaking to liberate Venezuela from a brutal Castro-communist regime we are also undertaking to liberate the Cuban people. We are all one Latin American people. We as Venezuelans understand the tragedy of decades of oppression, of division, of poverty, of the ruin the Cuban people have been subjected to […] Have confidence that our generation and all of us who love justice and liberty will be victorious. They will not stop us, they will not silence us, they will not divide us, they have instead given us more power during these trying times.”
The second comes from imprisoned Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez in El Universal (my translation):
“I am prepared physically, mentally, spiritually, and my family as well, to take on the time in this prison that God allows. My best companion in the solitude of a prison cell is my innocence.”
