Most Appropriate Out of Context Historical Quote of the Day

edmund-burke

Edmund Burke (1729-1797), describing the Penal Laws imposed on the Irish by their English overlords:

"These laws are a machine of wise and elaborate contrivance, as well fitted for the oppression, impoverishment and degradation of a people, and the debasement in them of human nature itself, as ever proceeded from the perverted ingenuity of man.”

Odd, how well Burke seems to describe the laws of the Castro Kingdom.

Should have been required reading for Mr. Thomas Donahue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce before his trip to that fabled utopia.
