#FreeElCritico -- Imprisoned Cuban rap singer/activist set to stand trial on Friday

Imprisoned Cuban rapper and activist Ángel Yunier Remón Arzuaga, in jail since March 2013, is scheduled to stand trial on Friday, June 20, according to Martinoticias.com.

Remón, also known as "El Critico," was arrested after police agents in his hometown of Bayamo beat him and four relatives and attack them with tear gas. Just days before, the musician had been detained as well. When he returned to his home, Remon painted anti-government messages on the walls of his house, which provoked further repression.

Reports say he could be sentenced to 8 years in prison on a charge of "resisting."

Martinoticias.com reported this week that police, including K9 units, have increased their presence around the courthouse in Bayamo, where El Critico could stand trial.
