Laugh of the day? Maybe. Maybe not.

Germán Martínez, a Peruvian politician, knows how to get attention, and how to embody the ridiculous state of Latin American politics.

Campaigning as Jedi knight  Germán-Wan Kenobi for the mayor’s office of the town of Pucallpa, Martinez promises to liberate the town from the Dark Side and to ensure the presence of  The Force at all times.

Campaigning as Supergermán, he promises “safety and and tranquility.”  Campaigning as Popeye, he promises to “knock out corruption.”

He is also assuming other fictional and comic book identities, each with its own appropriate slogan.  Details HERE, in Spanish.

Don’t laugh too hard.  Is this any less ridiculous than the campaigns run by most politicians in the United States, including presidential candidates?

“We are the people we’ve been waiting for.”….. Yeah.  Sure.  “Change you can believe in.”   Might as well have campaigned as a Jedi knight.

Maybe Hillary should  dye her hair platinum and start campaigning as Daenerys Targaryan, Mother of Dragons,  from “Game of Thrones”

  1. The problem is not that an office-seeker would pull this crap, but that there may well be enough voters who’d fall for it. That’s why perception and image, however false, are so critically important in politics. The fact is that LOTS of people are either not fit to vote or vote so irresponsibly that it amounts to the same thing. And let’s face it, the reason there’s so much BS all over the place is because the shit WORKS.
