Once again, the lack of support from a few African American congressmen

Moral Compass

During a visit to Cuba in 2009, Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-IL) indicated that Raul ““was very engaging, down-to earth and kind man.”

On January 12, 2015, the same Representative Rush introduced H.R. 274 to lift the trade embargo on Cuba.

There are no expectations that Representative Rush’s bill will garner sufficient votes to overturn the U.S. embargo. Nevertheless, it shows the lack of solidarity of the congressman with the movement to restore democracy and freedom to Cuba.

In the past, I penned an op-ed entitled the “measuring the moral compass of the Congressional Black Caucus,” where I criticized the lack of support by some from this Caucus to the pursuit of a Cuba Libre. Once again, one of its member has shown his true colors by fraternizing with the Castro dictatorship.

  1. To me, this is small potatoes. These people have always been clearly pro-Castro, and they’re no more than cheap, disreputable politicians. In other words, one can hardly expect better from them, and of course they’re going to jump on this (or any) Obama bandwagon. Yes, it’s disgusting, but getting worked up over it is like getting worked up over cockroaches being disgusting. Now, the Vatican’s role in the Obama-Cuba deal, THAT is another matter, on a totally different order of magnitude for obvious reasons, next to which Rush and the CBC look like mere bratty children. If the titular Vicar of Christ can do what he’s done, how can we possibly wonder at anybody else doing essentially the same thing? Are we EVER going to wake up and smell the coffee? Short of a miracle, either Cubans themselves solve Cuba’s problem or that is NOT happening, certainly not by way of non-Cubans, not even the “best” of them.
