“Normalize This!” Cubazuela offers U.S. very special lesson in diplomacy and reciprocity

I want to denounce the U.S. for manipulating dissidents in Venezuela!

Cognitive dissonance reigns supreme at the White House, as Raul Castro steps up his campaign to humiliate the United States.

Good luck finding any comment on this fact in the news outlets of the Granma Network.

While the current occupant of the White House blathers on and on about being in a hurry to “normalize” diplomatic relations with Cuba and about the easing of travel restrictions and the great positive changes this will bring to the Cuban people, the Cuban colony of Venezuela is teaching him a lesson on what the puppeteers in Havana mean by “normalization.”

Yes, and it’s quite a tough lesson.  Directed by the Castro mafia in Havana, Nicolas Maduro is shrinking and curtailing diplomatic relations with the U.S. at the very same time that the U.S. is trying to increase diplomatic relations with the Castro regime.

Raul’s fingerprints are all over this seemingly schizoid sucker punch.

Oh, but don’t expect anyone at the White House to take note of this latest insult.

While the current occupant of the White House rhapsodizes in Orwellian terms about improved relations and the miraculous improvement of economic and political freedom in Cuba, he and his acolytes blame the souring of relations with Venezuela on that country’s failed Cuban-directed “economic crisis” and on its repressive response to the complaints of its citizens.

You can’t make this up.  No.

Normalize this, Obamita!
Normalize this, Obamita…. And hurry up….I want my 117 billion dollars in reparations by Easter, at the latest.

Venezuela Tells U.S. to Reduce Embassy Staff

With diplomatic relations fraying rapidly between the United States and Venezuela, the government of President Nicolás Maduro has given the American Embassy here 15 days to come up with a plan to drastically shrink its staff, Venezuela’s foreign minister announced Monday.

Mr. Maduro has repeatedly accused the United States of supporting a plot to overthrow him, and on Saturday he announced a series of diplomatic measures that he said were intended to halt American meddling.

He said the United States would have to reduce the number of officials at its embassy to a number similar to the staff at the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington. He said there were 100 American officials here and just 17 Venezuelan officials in Washington, although those numbers have not been verified by the State Department…

…She said the change was in keeping with “the reciprocity that should govern relations between sovereign states.” The United States denies Mr. Maduro’s claim that it is involved in any plan to overthrow him, saying he is seeking to deflect attention from the country’s worsening economic crisis.

Mr. Maduro also said Saturday that Americans traveling to Venezuela would now need visas to enter the country and that they would have to pay a fee equal to what Venezuelans pay for a visa to the United States.

Mr. Maduro’s anti-Washington language was tamped down for several weeks after the surprise diplomatic opening between the United States and Cuba, a close ally of the Caracas government.

But last month, as pressure grew on Mr. Maduro to address the country’s many economic ills, he once again stepped up accusations against the United States.

Exclusive: Obama hopes for U.S. embassy in Cuba before April summit in Panama

U.S. President Barack Obama said on Monday that he hopes the United States will open an embassy in Cuba by the time of a Western Hemisphere summit in Panama in mid-April.

In an interview with Reuters, Obama also cautioned that it will take more time to fully establish normal relations with Cuba after more than a half-century rupture.

“My hope is that we will be able to open an embassy, and that some of the initial groundwork will have been laid” before the April 10-11 Summit of the Americas in Panama City, Obama said.

“Keep in mind that our expectation has never been that we would achieve full normal relations immediately. There’s a lot of work that still has to be done,” he said.

Washington and Havana announced on Dec. 17 that they planned to restore diplomatic relations following 18 months of secret face-to-face talks.

While critics, including some members of Congress, have called the end of U.S. attempts to isolate Cuba a gift to the authoritarian Cuban government, Obama said there are already signs it is prompting Havana to liberalize.

“We are going down a path in which we can open up our relations to Cuba in a way that ultimately will prompt more change in Cuba. And we’re already seeing it,” the U.S. president said.

“The very fact that, since our announcement, the Cuban government has begun to discuss ways in which they are going to reorganize their economy to accommodate for possible foreign investment, that’s already forcing a series of changes that promises to open up more opportunities for entrepreneurs, more transparency in terms of what’s happening in their economy,” he said.

“And that’s always been the premise of this policy; that, after 50 years of a policy that didn’t work, we need to try something new that encourages and ultimately I think forces the Cuban government to engage in a modern economy. And that will create more space for freedom for the Cuban people,” Obama said.
