(From the AP regarding the first Carnival cruise to Cuba last year: : “The (Carnival Cruise)trips include on-board workshops on Cuban history and culture and tours of the cities that allow the trip to qualify as “people-to-people” educational travel, avoiding a ban on pure tourism that remains part of U.S. law.”)….Many more are scheduled.
There it is on your left, Carnival cruisers!…A famous historic site! Right next to El Morro castle! That’s Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña (Fort of Saint Charles) better known by many of the folks around Carnival’s Miami headquarters as La Cabaña!
Call us crazy–but for some reason here at Babalu Blog we’re kinda guessing Carnival’s “educational workshops” “overlooked” some important historic items relating to the VERY FIRST Cuban historic landmark you fine folks viewed!– even before the Adonia docked! Yes! La Cabaña! there on your left as you entered Havana Harbor! !
It was here that, promptly upon entering Havana in January 1959, Che Guevara set up his firing-squad mass-murder central! Yes, amigos!
Your Cuban hosts ( the ones you’re enriching during this cruise) murdered more political prisoners in their first three years in power (out of a population of 6.4 million) than Hitler’s regime murdered in it’s first six (out of a population of 70 million)! Hundreds of these were murdered RIGHT THERE on your left in La Cabaña!
Upon your return to Miami you can greatly enhance this educational tour by visiting some of the (symbolic) graves of these murdered Cubans at Miami’s Memorial Cubano!’
“Even here in Poland many people were duped into believing the myth of Che Guevara. After reading Humberto Fontova’s excellent book, they will have have no excuse.” (Tomaz Pompowski, Polska Times,–division of The London Times– Warsaw, Poland)
“A great service for the cause of human freedom. Deservedly puts Che Guevara in the ash-heap of history. Every American should read Humberto Fontova’s book.” (David Horowitz on Exposing The Real Che Guevara and the Useful Idiots Who Idolize Him.)
So who’s responsible for the content of those “on-board workshops on Cuban history”? Who did Carnival use to put them together? UM? FIU? Castro, Inc.? Even if they were not produced by the Castro people, did they have any say on the matter? This is actually a very important question, in principle, and if the local press isn’t asking it, then it’s not doing its job.
Great question, Asombra…Let’s ask around. And if you find something–please post.
