Fantastic column in the Washington Post today by Marc Thiessen who was a spokesman for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 1995 to 2001 and is a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution.
In the column Thiessen details a meeting he once had with castroite mouthpiece Ricardo Alarcon. The meeting was interesting in that Alarcon seemed to [...]

After seeing this photograph, those of us still in favor of travel restrictions to Cuba must reconsider our position. How can we--in good conscience--deny the septuagenarian men of America the same chance to receive love from a young, black Cuban woman?
I'm afraid we have been wrong all these years. We cannot stand in the [...]

Once again, Vice President Joe Biden spoke about Cuba today, this time doing so from the city of San Jose in Costa Rica. And once again we braced ourselves in preparation to hear the muffled words emanate from the VP's foot-filled mouth. Both the "intransigent hardliners," as they like to call us, as well as [...]

Senator Menendez said he would continue to use every available tool to preserve U.S. sanctions until political conditions change in Cuba, although he attributed much of his earlier ire to the fact that the provision had been inserted with no notice into an unrelated bill.
"If you want to change Cuba policy, fine, let's duke it [...]

Reading all the lies disseminated by the MSM, politicians, and Castro apologists in regards to Cuba's reality day-in and day-out can be frustrating. That we, those intransigent "hardliners," have been able to hold on to the truth and our integrity after 50 years of propaganda is amazing. And when I come across an editorial like [...]

Happy Monday infidels, interesting news on the cigar front....
A US Company, Guantanamera Cigars has filed a federal lawsuit against the Castro Run Cuban Cigar Company, Corporacion Habanos alleging unfair competition and common law trademark infringement stemming from Corporacion Habanos' advertisement of its Cuban "GUANTANAMERA" cigars in a magazine with United States distribution.
Give a look to [...]

"Lift the travel restrictions," that's what all the opponents of the embargo and the hard-line against the murderous castro brothers say. Oh we'll be able to spawn change in Cuba if only we had more "people to people contacts" some say. Flood the island with tourists, blue jeans and rock and roll music, [...]

Castro's propaganda ministry is not notorious for fawning over Republicans. But lately they've been gushing over the Ranking Republican member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator Richard Lugar.
"Changing Cuba Policy-Staff Trip Report to the Committee on Foreign Relations United States Senate," is the title of the report Senator Lugar released on [...]

According to the AP, congress is only days away from passing a bill that would in effect be the beginning of the end of the US embargo against the Castro regime.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats controlling Congress are loosening restrictions on allowing people of Cuban descent to visit their relatives on the island.
A huge bill wrapping [...]

As I have mentioned here numerous times, I have yet to see a proponent for the elimination of the embargo against Cuba's totalitarian dictatorship without any concessions from the regime provide a plausible and logical argument. They are good at bringing up irrelevant points in an attempt to bolster their arguments (i.e. China, Vietnam, etc.), [...]

Via TheRealCuba.com we are made aware of a fascinating report at Armando Mastrapa's excellent blog CubaPoliData. An intro:
Stratfor’s fourth in-depth look at organized crime focuses on Cuba. In atypical fashion, organized crime in Cuba is run by the state and stems from a long tradition that places Cuban military and intelligence apparatus into positions of [...]

Cuba Reconciliation Act (Introduced in House)[H.R.188.IH]. Introduced by that champion of freedom, Jose Serrano.
Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act (Introduced in House)[H.R.874.IH]. Introduced by Delahunt, Flake, et al.
We'll see if Obama keeps his promises to keep the embargo until castro, inc. meets certain conditions such as release of all the political prisoners or if he's [...]

If the U.S. embargo on Cuba were a person he'd be in tatters with a big old bullseye on his back. I recently received an email from a reader about the embargo. I responded to him at length (below) but have not heard back from him. Here's his letter with my response.
I [...]
