‘If the Liberal MSM Doesn’t want to Hear it They will Shut You Down…’

The liberal Juan Williams has had more than one “broken clock moment”, especially after the troubles he had with very liberal NPR a couple years ago for expressing his own personal fears about Muslims. Here Williams unabashedly states the truth about the liberal/leftist mainstream media (MSM) in this country.

“I always thought it was the Archie Bunkers of the world, the right-wingers of world, who were more resistant and more closed-minded about hearing the other side,” he said. “In fact, what I have learned is, in a very painful way — and I can open this shirt and show you the scars and the knife wounds — is that it is big media institutions who are identifiably more liberal to left-leaning who will shut you down, stab you and kill you, fire you, if they perceive that you are not telling the story in the way that they want it told.”

Right now the American MSM is self-censoring the news. It has been going on for awhile, but more so at an increased rate over the last several years. They twisted and even invented things during the Bush administration. They did not vet Obama during the 2007-08 democrat primary and general elections. For Obama’s first term they remained completely silent on Obama not only keeping in place Bush administration policies he (Obama as senator) and the MSM loudly objected to, but increasing them and extending them to involve American citizens, not just foreign terrorist elements. The American MSM has become the propaganda arm of the Obama administration, the democrats, and the socialist movement in this country. NBC/MSNBC (being the worst) has been caught many times in less than two years of selectively editing video and audio to twist the truth and suit their agenda. During the 2004 election CBS was caught completely fabricating National Guard documents against Pres. Geroge W. Bush in order to tip public opinion to then democrat candidate John Kerry, justifying it with “fake but accurate”. The MSM can deny it all they want, and deflect bias allegations onto FOX News, but it is what it is. Just look at cable/network news ratings.

Sink-Tank: The Self-Inflicted Wounds of NBC’s Political Agenda Labors

How bad is it? Univision beats NBC in the sweeps ratings…

An already bad month is getting worse for NBC. For the first time in sweeps history, the network is projected to finish fifth in the key adults 18-49 demographic. That’s a crushing blow for NBC, which went from flying high in November with a sweep win & Steve Burke breaking his usual silence last fall to brag to the New York Times about the network’s performance to its shows cratering and ratings plunging. From the beginning of the February sweep on January 31 through February 19, NBC has averaged a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49. That’s below the 1.5 that Univision has been averaging so far over the 20 night of the sweep period. In fact, Univision has bested NBC every single night of the sweep so far among adults 18-49 and is poised to overtake NBC for its first fourth-place sweep finish in the demo. While this isn’t the first time Univision has topped one of the Big Three for a month (it ranked higher than CBS in July 2010 and 2012), it is the first time the Spanish-language network has beaten NBC and the first time it has come in fourth place in an in-season sweep. In addition to Univision, NBC also ranks below the 1.7 18-49 rating that ABC has been averaging this sweep, as well as the 2.0 rating for Fox and the 4.9 rating for leader CBS, which of course is buoyed by its broadcast of the Super Bowl on February 3 and the Grammy Awards on February 10.

NBC suffered the lowest ratings ever for an in-season scripted series premiere with the debut of Do No Harm on January 31. The dismal 0.9/3 of the premiere fell 22% to 0.7/2 on February 7, leading to the series’ swift cancellation. The White House comedy 1600 Penn is probably not far behind, having hit a weak 1.1/3 in its last airing February 7. Adding to NBC’s woes, the Season 2 return of Smash was a train wreck. With a limp 1.1/3 rating, it returned down 71% from its Season 1 debut and 39% from its first-year finale — and it fell another 25% to a series low of 0.9/2 this week.

The recent scandalous history of deceptive editing by NBC’s news division, and that of MSNBC’s, is obviously dragging down NBC’s entertainment programming side.

A couple things here.

* Ratings are used to garner not only sponsors, but set the rates for sponsorship at any given time during network programing. It not only enables the networks to continue funding and carrying current shows/programs and acquiescing to top-rated series/program stars’ demands for salary raises in order to keep them under contract, but to buy and produce new ones with desired ratings-grabbing writers/producers/actors. Given the last dozen or more years of GE and NBC’s blatant political bias I suppose the network is lucky GE is about to become the primary owner again of NBCUniversal. It can keep funneling money into the sinking ship while maybe using NBC and MSNBC’s incredibly poor results as tax write-offs???

** At some point the shareholders of this network have got to get pissed-off (again) at the network’s biased practices (mostly in its news divisions, because the preachy political undertones in fictional programs is typical of the times, unfortunately) and these dismal ratings (with no relief insight) and need to demand some serious answers of NBC’s CEOs.

However, I guess in the grand scope of the socialist agenda push in this coutry NBC is more than happy and willing to fall on its dirty sword, so to speak, in order to do its part for the cause. After all, it has been pointed out GE would cash-in on some of that Obama agenda. Given its close ties and kinship with Obama, and it’s favorable ratings with the White House, I guess a stimulus or bailout wouldn’t be out of the question.

Squirm: NBC’s News President is Out at the Network

Breitbart’s John Nolte follows up his scathing report on the American MSM’s Beyond Bias position in handling the nation’s news with this news of a key departure at out of control edit-happy NBC…

During his tenure, no fewer than the equivalent of five RatherGates happened; and after two , three, and four of these incidents, it became glaringly apparent that Capus was the problem. Today, action was finally taken. Capus is no longer with NBC News.

Whether Capus resigned or was forced out because someone on the NBC board finally decided his moral illiteracy needed to come to an end, doesn’t matter. What matters is that a management style that either encouraged this fraud or was helpless to stop it, is out.

[…]

But the only real question is, why did it take this long.

The rap sheet against Capus isn’t troubling, surprising, or even disturbing — it is breathtaking:

1. During last year’s presidential election Andrea Mitchell was caught manufacturing a Romney gaffe where none existed.

2. During last year’s GOP primary, Ed Schultz edited video of Texas Governor Rick Perry to make him look racist.

3. In April of last year, the “Today Show” was caught editing audio of a 9-1-1 call to make George Zimmerman look racist.

4. In August of 2009, Contessa Brewer sliced and diced a photograph so it wouldn’t look like a black man attended a Tea Party carrying a firearm.

5. Just this week, NBC News maliciously edited video of a town council meeting to make it look as though Second Amendment civil rights activists heckled a parent who lost his son in Newtown.

This isn’t bias; this is committing outright fraud in pursuit of a political agenda. And it is no coincidence that every single one of these incidents aided and abetted Obama directly or whatever his agenda was at the time.

[…]

If the history of the media, and specifically NBC News, is any indicator, the new boss is going to look an awful lot like the old boss. But let’s not be completely cynical. While NBC’s irresponsible and unrelenting left-wing bias will never end, we can at least have some hope that its irresponsible and unforgiving fraud will.

Today would’ve been Andrew Breitbart’s 44th birthday. He might be gone, but his impact and legacy grow stronger with each passing day.

The fact of the matter is while Capus is responsible for what happens under his watch, the on air staff at MSNBC continue to willingly, eagerly, and gleefully pursue and carry out the Goebbels-worthy propaganda campaign unencumbered by professional ethics while the network’s higher-ups and CEOs shrug their collective shoulders at the cable network’s bottom-dwelling in the ratings tank.

Those few still willing to fulfill their duties as real journalists and watchdogs find the job extremely difficult and frustrating in this new world order of the American media.

“We’re Well Beyond Bias Now”

Breitbart’s John Nolte nails the American MSM to the democrat party’s door…

Everything changed after the election, and it had nothing to do with Obama winning a second term.

For as long as I’ve been aware of the media, I have known that I live in a country with a media biased strongly in favor of Democrats. Fair enough. But there were rules in that world, one of them being that once a Democrat was safely elected or reelected, the media would do its job when it came to scandals and overall accountability.

This is why, after Obama won his second term, I thought we would finally get to the bottom of what happened in Libya, from the incompetence that left our consulate unforgivably vulnerable, straight through to the White House lying for two weeks to cover up the fact that a successful terrorist attack had occurred on its watch.

But that didn’t happen. The media didn’t revert back to being the media; the media remained at its post as a Palace Guard.

Then the same thing happened with the fiscal cliff and Sandy Hook and immigration and the debt ceiling. Even with Obama safely snuggled in for term two, the media refused to do anything that would or could damage him politically. But it’s not just Obama; the media is openly and viciously protecting the Democratic Party as a whole.

The Narrative is now: Democrats can do nothing wrong; Republicans can do nothing right.

[…]

And this is why the media will run whole hog with an unverified and ultimately false story that makes gun-rights activists look awful.

What changed after the election was that I went from living in a country with a biased media to living in a country where the media is in place to protect The State.

When you realize that’s what happened, you understand why the media had no interest in verifying whether or not a malicious lie told about Second Amendment advocates was true or not. And it wasn’t just the left-wing fever swamps who quickly and gleefully spread this lie.

[…]

When the media assumes the role of protecting The State, that’s when manufactured propaganda is allowed to become news. The provably false “heckle” story helps The State, because The State wants to restrict our civil rights. Therefore, the story is too good to check and must be spread as quickly as possible.

Gun Control Mentality: Mental Illness vs The Irrational

irrational

When the Second Amendment supporters begin to win the heated gun control debate the insatiable gun control opposition throws down the “mental illness” card. Fine and good. I agree. People diagnosed with mental illness or mental deficiencies should not have guns. We can argue all day how if a person is determined mentally ill enough to do harm to themselves or to others they will find a way. It is an imperfect world, and unless the State controls everybody with a magic little pill everyday, lobotomizing the population’s individual free thought, it will not be any closer to being the safe world utopia imagined. This is where mental illness becomes cyclical and conditional with the liberals/left. Those who are resisting the attempts to have their rights and freedoms taken from them are mentally ill. (This was and is done in communist countries, as you know.) So, given the older generations’ bitterly clinging to our common sense and our Constitutional rights, where do they (everybody asks, “Who are they?” Well, if you don’t know by now…) start their re-education and reconstruction of control?

Before I point out the obvious, let me remind everyone that in the last 30-40 years the liberals in this country have successfully phased out shame. Don’t shame a child for doing something wrong. This country’s entertainment industry obviously has no shame. Our MSM has no shame at all … MSNBC, by the way, has been caught creatively editing yet another video/audio in order to fit their crazy gun rights narrative:

No stranger to selectively edited video clips, MSNBC on Monday aired a misleading and incomplete clip of testimony given by the father of a Sandy Hook victim at a hearing before the Connecticut Legislature. The edited version of his remarks, aired on Martin Bashir’s show, make it appear as if pro-gun advocates maliciously interrupted (or “heckled” as many have said) the dad for no reason as he calmly argued against civilians owning semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines. In fact, the edit was so subtle not even we picked up on it in our original story.

“It’s not a good feeling to look at your child laying in a casket. Or looking at your child with a bullet wound to the forehead. It’s a real sad day,” Neil Heslin, father of Sandy Hook victim Jesse Lewis, said during Monday’s hearing.

“I ask if there is anyone who is in this room that can give me one reason or challenge this question: Why anybody in this room needs to have done of these assault-style weapons or military weapons or high capacity clips?” he asked rhetorically. He paused and then said, “Not one person can answer the question.”

It was at this point that a few members of the audience voiced their support for the Second Amendment. “The Second Amendment shall not be infringed,” one man yelled, appearing to try and answer Heslin’s question.

As the presiding official pointed out, comments were not permitted during the testimony, however. And Bashir was quick to hop on that point.

Get it? Neil Heslin asked a question of those attending the hearing. When, after a pause, he did not receive an answer he asked his question again, and then some broke their polite silence to give him one. MSNBC’s hacking-out of this area shows they believe that answer to be the wrong answer in this emotionally-driven issue. THAT answer pulls the public opinion emotional runaway train off the track and back onto the reality track, and cannot be. Remember? And if anyone dares go against this effort they will be whipsawed (nods to Limbaugh) … shamed in front of the masses. They used Neil Heslin in their own agenda, and continue to do so even though they have been found to be conniving, dishonest, and manipulative. Joseph Goebbels is smiling from Hell.

“If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth … It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise.”

With all the thought and techno-work MSNBC put into editing that first parent’s testimony to create demons and devils, they did not have much time at all to cover this parent’s statements who dared to speak factual truth to his own emotional loss and devastation context…

Obama is Bitterly Clinging to His Arrogance and Partisanship

obama fly

The Telegraph UK’s Nile Gardiner can smell the imperialist stench all the way across the deep dark pond…

The liberal New Republic, which is periodically described as the in-flight magazine on Air Force One for Democratic presidents, has just released the transcript of an interview with Barack Obama as he looks ahead to the next four years. The New Republic piece is a compelling read, and is aptly headlined: “Barack Obama is not pleased.” It paints a portrait of a president, in his own words, who appears deeply partisan, sneeringly dismissive of his political opponents, bitterly angry at his adversaries for standing in the way on issues such as the budget, and completely lacking in any humility. If this is Obama at the start of his second term, one can only imagine what he’ll be like three years from now.

A key section of Obama’s interview is where he talks about the superiority of his own party, and why there must be “a real price to pay” for the Republicans for opposing his policies:

[…]

Ever sensitive to press criticism, Obama could not resist taking a shot at the conservative media, while ludicrously suggesting that the liberal-dominated mainstream media is more supportive of political compromise, which must be a revelation to the editors of The New York Times:

[…]

There is nothing in this interview that suggests the president is in any way serious about reining in federal spending, introducing entitlement reform, or rolling back the frontiers of the government. For a country with more than $16 trillion of debt, this is a catastrophic approach. It is very clear from this interview that President Obama sees his re-election as a mandate to continue the very policies that will eventually bankrupt the country unless they are reversed, regardless of huge opposition on Capitol Hill. It chimes closely with the president’s second inaugural address last week, which offered absolutely no olive branches to the nearly 61 million Americans who voted for his opponent in November.

Significantly, a major Gallup poll released on Inauguration Day showed that most Americans don’t feel positive about the direction their country is taking:

And just like the emperor that Obama sees himself as, rest assured he has plans to go it alone

President Obama said he would prefer to accomplish his ambitious second-term agenda with the help of Congress but will employ “a judicious use of executive power” where necessary to reach policy goals.

Obama’s remarks, made during an interview with the New Republic, come as many in Washington expect the president’s administration to push forward aggressively with a host of regulations in the coming months and years.

Gird your loins, America.

More criticism for The New Republic’s interview of Obama … from his own side:

But I also wish Times reporter Christine Haughney had explored a conflict of interest in TNR’s relaunch: the participation of new owner Chris Hughes in a major interview with President Obama.

[…]

But Hughes, the 29-year-old co-founder of Facebook, is also the “former online campaign adviser” to the president, as Haughney puts it — and by all accounts the key person in building Obama’s 2008 online presence. In April 2009, Fast Company ran a long profile headlined “How Chris Hughes Helped Launch Facebook and the Barack Obama Campaign.”

[…]

Nevertheless, given Hughes’ background, I found myself asking if he might have been tougher if he were interviewing a president he hadn’t worked for…

Apparently this revealing TNR interview and Sunday night’s Hillary and Me “CBS 60 Minutes” interview are not doing Obama any PR favors, except with his fawning and obedient MSM fans..

President Obama’s recent response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., convinced the pastor who preached at this morning’s pre-inaugural church service that the president has the cleric’s touch.

Obama should be called “Pastor in Chief,” said Andy Stanley, pastor of North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Ga., after he “thanked POTUS for work after Newtown shooting tragedy when he spoke to mourners.”

The pool reporter notes that Stanley moved from that to telling the story of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples. “The takeaway: What do you do when in a position of power? “You leverage that power for the benefit of other people in the room,” he said. Added “Mr. President, you have an awfully big room.” Stanley “prayed that POTUS would “continue to leverage this influence for the sake of our nation and the sake of the world.’”

Oh, We “Bitter Clingers”: The Left Attacking Assault Books Now

“We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against. So! A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it. Take the shot from the weapon.” — Captain Beatty

Below you will find two videos of two leftists in the MSM that many uninformed people depend on to tell them how/what to think (and vote).

First is the recently publicized stooge, CNN’s Piers Morgan, who is torn apart by Breitbart’s Ben Shapiro. A couple samples within:

Piers Morgan in reference to Shapiro’s copy of the U.S. Constitution – “Your little book…”

Ben Shapiro tries to get through the Brit’s excessively thick skull to help him understand how an unarmed population is at the mercy of tyrants (which is completely lost on Morgan) *-“The fact that my grandparents and great-grandparents in Europe didn’t fear that (tyranny) is why they are now ashes in Europe…”

Yes, the left/MSM/democrats ARE using these deaths as tools to go after our Constitutional rights. Notice Morgan tries to erase the fact that the push for gun control and the attacks on our Second Amendment right is coming from the left in this country. Shapiro, however, missed countering Morgan with the fact that the then Reagan induced first ban on assault weapons did not reduce crime.

As a young adult (and even a democrat at the time) I had to explain this concept to my Hungarian Grandmother who was disparaging Americans’ ability to own guns (she was watching the news and the city’s annual murder rate was being reported). Grandma shook her head and said in her old country the regular citizens were not permitted to own or use guns unless the government allowed you to as a “hunter”. She said only hunters should own guns, and that we really didn’t need too many hunters because we had grocery stores. I told her our gun rights were NOT written for “hunters”, and that we fought the King to free ourselves with guns and we had to keep guns to personally protect ourselves and keep our freedom, and that odds were if somebody broke into her home the intruder would likely have a gun and the set of homemade nunchucks she kept under her bed pillow would not save an 80 year old woman’s life … or anyone else’s. I then had to remind her of the story she had told me since I was a young child … The one where her Father was in America away from the rest of the family during WWI. The one where a cousin had run to my Great-Grandmother’s small farm and warned her the Russians were coming. The one where she had a handful of children to defend (two young teen daughters) all on her own from these advancing men, and all she could do was dig a hole in the barn floor and bury any of their property of value and money to keep the Russian soldiers from stealing it. The one where my very young Grandmother and her sister spent a few hours ballet dancing to entertain the drunken soldiers when they invaded the tiny farm to keep them from entertained, all the while my Great-Grandmother holding her fearful tears and silently praying to God the soldiers would not invade her pretty daughters. She was helpless to do anything else had they done so. I also reminded Grandma that in WWII (she and the family had joined with my Great-Grandfather here pomptly after WWI) all those Jewish friends, and her own Hungarian friends and family members (including my Hungarian Grandfather’s, her husband’s, family) were among those who did not have guns to fight for their lives against the Nazis … before being loaded onto trains and hauled to the furnaces of the concentration camps. I reminded her of my husband’s own Russian Grandfather, at 15 years old, fled his country as the Russian Revolution was igniting, knowing what was about to replace the Czar. My Grandmother insisted such things would never happen here in America. I told her THAT was because of our Second Amendment allowing the citizens to responsibly purchase and own guns. It is why the First Amendment insisted we had the right to speak against the government, and the Second was written to back it up. I also reminded her that there were already communists here (at the time the USSR and China were at their Cold War strongest) because of that First Amendment freedom, and I told her she should never hold a stronger faith in anything above God…

Reality Check: 4 Minutes of Facts and Stinking Facts on Gun Stats Just as Obama Prepares to Reach for His “Executive Order” Pen … Again

The other night conspiracy blogger *Alex Jones appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan’s show. (Jones was nearly derailed in his travels to the CNN interview during a tangle with the airport TSA.)

It is obvious the number of people who actually viewed the hectic debate between the two on CNN (not counting those who viewed the post-video on the internet) over gun control in the United States could quite possibly fit into a small town’s fast food parking lot. The exchange has since been mired in Jones’s un-composed, zealous style which gave ammo to Morgan’s, and the left’s, weak stance against our Second Amendment right. However, conveniently lost in the liberal MSM ethos (as usual) amid their plotting the deaths of their opposition, are the crushing facts and stinking facts

Meanwhile, given the Congress’s broken clock moments of better judgement in these matters, Obama cannot count even on enough democrats to vote with him on his gun grab. Obama and his new Gun Czar Crazy Vice Liar Joe Biden, are setting this country up for Obama’s “Executive Order” abolishing our Second Amendment right. It HAS been Obama’s plan all along. Now, ignore the emotional aspect of the Alex Jones rant, and his core claims of the average law abiding U.S. citizen who owns guns not willingly acquiescing to a dictator’s tearing up of the U.S. Constitution would not go over well at all do not sound so fanatic or conspiratorial … Do they?

And here it comes:

JOE BIDEN: “The president is going to act. There are executives orders — executive action that can be taken. We haven’t decided what that is yet. But we’re compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and all the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action, we believe is required.”

Finally, something so simple and accurate that is NOT being said enough in the haste of this debate was something I read in a morning exchange on Facebook: “At Columbine those two “kids” broke about 26 Federal and State laws. Does anyone seriously think had there been a 27th that they would have said “We better not do this there are 27 laws about this.”?”

*I am not and never have been an Alex Jones fan/follower.

Editor’s Note: The Biden Video implies this was Biden after a meeting with the NRA this morning. He has not yet met with the NRA. Today’s meeting involved like-minded gun control advocate groups/people.

ManBearPig Makes Multi-Million Dollar Current Jelly

manbearpig

The last minute fire sale of Al Gore’s failed Current TV has some side stories almost as entertaining as Gore’s other pet project, “global warming/climate change”.

The New York Times is reporting the transaction between Gore and Al Jazeera was pused through quickly so as to avoid Obama’s “fiscal cliff” tax hikes.

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. But the deal was not signed until Wednesday.

I think Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds had the best reaction to this:

“Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1.”

That’s Irony #1. Irony #2 is Al Gore walking away with $100 million in dirty oil money. Well, it would be ironic if it weren’t so predictable. Al’s a whore, basically. Gore, I mean. Not Jazeera.

Golden.

Now then, I am not sure what the counter offer amount was, but new media mogul Glenn Beck had contacted Gore and Current TV offering to purchase the entity, but was rejected

Before pan-Arab broadcaster al-Jazeera bought Current TV, the fledgling cable news network founded by former Vice President Al Gore, conservative commentator Glenn Beck had pursued purchasing the company — and was rejected.

The Wall Street Journal revealed that when Beck’s TheBlaze TV sought ownership of the Current broadcasting network, the bid was rejected because the principles of Beck’s company did not align with those of Current.

“Other suitors who didn’t share Current’s ideology were rebuffed,” reporters Keach Hagey and John Jannarone wrote in the Wall Street Journal. “Glenn Beck’s TheBlaze approached Current about buying the channel last year, but was told that ‘the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view,'” according to a person familiar with the negotiations.”

The former vice president confirmed the sale Wednesday that reportedly netted $100 million, saying in a statement that Al-Jazeera shares Current TV’s mission “to give voice to those who are not typically heard; to speak truth to power; to provide independent and diverse points of view; and to tell the stories that no one else is telling.”

Beck confirmed that his bid was rbuffed by tweeting out a link to an explanation on his blog, with the Journal’s reporting embedded.

So, Gore and Co. had more in common with an Arab network that promotes, and gives stage to, radical Islam and anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism than he does with an American businessman who promotes free speech, human rights, freedom, and American patriotism. Remember how we all were relieved moments/days after 9/11/01 when we realized Gore had not won the bazillion recounts in Florida? I’m just sayin’.

However, this is apparently Al Gore’s story for the final sale decision, and he’s sticking to it:

In an email sent to Current TV’s staff, co-founder and former chief executive officer Joel Hyatt describes the selling process he and co-founder Al Gore went through in considering sale to Al Jazeera, acknowledging Current TV was a failed model.

Hyatt points to the Al Jazeera’s many accomplishments, including its global reach and for being the “only news network” that Obama-supporter Colin Powell watches, as factors in their decision.

Mmm-kay.

Well, I am sure Keith Olbermann and Janeane Garofalo have very good prospects for an easy hire into the new ownership’s line-up as anchors … wearing Burqas, of course.

A Little ‘Honesty and Common Sense’ Perspective on The Horror

Ctpolice

Times, such as these, are when certain people among us try to seize the moment/crisis in order to dictate the narrative and push a political agenda that is contrary to our rights as a nation. Luis points this out. As a matter of fact, it did not take long at all for the usual suspects in the MSM, and around the liberal/left sphere within this country inside and outside government to begin targeting our Second Amendment rights. While we mourn the unimaginable massive loss and crushing grief and horror in Connecticut we must resist and refuse the media and government manipulation of our emotions during such events to rule our judgement. Jim Treacher says it best in two of his latest biting missives on Facebook:

“Our Constitutional rights are inalienable … Unless something bad happens.”

“Gun-free zones are the safest places on earth. You don’t have to worry about anybody trying to kill you as you’re shooting people.”

Today I have come across some things that help keep this in perspective. One is from blogger Lenore Skenazy who reminds us of the deadliest school massacre in U.S. history, and how different these horrific events are today … and why:

In the end there were 38 children dead at the school, two teachers and four other adults.

I’m not talking about the horrific shooting in Connecticut today. I’m talking about the worst school murder in American history. It took place in Michigan, in 1927. A school board official, enraged at a tax increase to fund school construction, quietly planted explosives in Bath Township Elementary. Then, the day he was finally ready, he set off an inferno. When crowds rushed in to rescue the children, he drove up his shrapnel-filled car and detonated it, too, killing more people, including himself. And then, something we’d find very strange happened.

Nothing.

No cameras were placed at the front of schools. No school guards started making visitors show identification. No Zero Tolerance laws were passed, nor were background checks required of PTA volunteers—all precautions that many American schools instituted in the wake of the Columbine shootings, in 1999. Americans in 1928—and for the next several generations —continued to send their kids to school without any of these measures. They didn’t even drive them there. How did they maintain the kind of confidence my own knees and heart don’t feel as I write this?

They had a distance that has disappeared. A distance that helped them keep the rarity and unpredictability of the tragedy in perspective, granting them parental peace.

[…]

Time and space create distance. But today, those have compressed to zero. The Connecticut shooting comes into our homes–even our hands–instantly, no matter where we live. We see the shattered parents in real time. The President can barely maintain composure. This sorrow isn’t far away, it’s local for every single one of us.

And of course it brings up Columbine. Two horrors, separated by years and miles, are now fused into one. It feels like terrible things are happening to our children all the time, everywhere. Nowhere is safe.

As a result, I expect we will now demand precautions on top of precautions. More guards. More security cameras. More supervision. We will fear more for our kids and let go of them even more reluctantly. Every time we wonder if they can be safe beyond our arms, these shootings will swim into focus.

Will this new layer of fear and security make our children any safer? Probably not, but for a reassuring reason: A tragedy like this is so rare, our kids are already safe. Not perfectly safe. No one ever is. But safe.

That’s a truth the folks in 1928 America understood. We just don’t feel that way now.

I think Ms. Skenazy could/should have also gone another inch or two in her thoughts in that because of this technological age of 24/7 instant wall-to-wall news, that most times turns these events/stories into borderline entertainment, there are those who lust for such attention and find these times their opportunity for notoriety and fame in the media by copy-catting and carrying out such atrocities within a matter of days or weeks. And what does it say about our panting MSM that state troopers must now protect grieving families from the media?

Secondly, Debra Burlingame is a friend of mine on Facebook. She is the sister of Charles “Chic” Burlingame III, the pilot of the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 that was flown into the Pentagon on 9/11. She offers these thoughts in addition to a story from Great Britain where “gun control” is so strict personal civilian ownership is forbidden, yet, the violence has increased by 89% in just ten years. Debra says:

“The event in Newton makes me want to get a gun, not outlaw them. Criminals and crazies will always find a way to arm themselves. See rising gun violence in England, which enacted a total ban after the Dunblane shooting.”

This House is On Fire

Bernie Goldberg’s analogy puts the “fiscal cliff” and the supposed “leaders” and the alleged watchdog media of this nation in blunt layman’s terms

Imagine that you’re standing outside on the street, in the bitter cold of the night, dressed in your pajamas. In horror, you’re watching your home engulfed in flames. Imagine that the fire fighters have arrived, and with them are all the trucks, hoses, and other equipment required to start attacking the fire.

You know a lot of damage has already been done to your house, but the foundation is solid, many of your belongings can still be saved, and you’re certain you can rebuild if the fire is put out in time. The problem is that there are two lead firemen standing in your front yard, arguing over how best to extinguish the flames. While the fire spreads and your house continues to burn, they keep arguing with neither of them giving in an inch. You’re forced to watch helplessly as everything you’ve built up over the years is being destroyed.

This is essentially what’s happening right now with the ‘fiscal cliff’ discussions in Washington, and really with every time-sensitive, partisan battle (including the debt ceiling, annual budgets, etc) that has taken place over the U.S. economy in the past few years. You are the ‘informed public’ because you see the overall problem, recognize how it effects you, and are expecting the people whose salaries you pay to actually fix the problem. The house on fire is the collapsing state of the economy. The two firemen are our elected leaders from the Democratic and Republican parties. The ‘uninformed public’ is your next-door neighbor who calmly steps outside of his house to watch the light display. With a big smile on his face, your neighbor records the fire on his iPhone, and wonders how long it will take to upload the video to YouTube later. He doesn’t really seem to understand the situation, and is oblivious to the very real threat of the large, swirling flames soon jumping from your house to his house.

Your frustration turns to anger over the inability of the firemen to act professional, formulate a plan, and save your house. You run up to them to try and figure out what their problem is, and are shocked to hear the source of the stalemate. The fireman with the “R” printed on his helmet is proposing to hook up the hoses to fire-hydrants, and douse the flames with large quantities of water. The fireman with the “D” printed on his helmet is proposing to hook up the hoses to gasoline-tankers, and douse the flames with as much gasoline as possible.

You quickly realize that Fireman D is either dangerously ignorant or completely insane, but Fireman R’s lower rank won’t let him take control away from Fireman D to resolve the situation.

[…]

Reporters from the media show up and begin covering the fire with their lights and cameras. You run up to them and explain what’s going on, and beg them to get the message out that you’re going to lose your house because the guy in charge isn’t taking the situation seriously. You hope that the media exposure will pressure Fireman D into doing the right thing. To your shock, however, you find that the media is on Fireman D’s side. They broadcast live on the evening news that Fireman R is “obstructing” Fireman D from doing his job, and a house is going to be completely destroyed because of it.

You shout at the reporters in frustration, but they tell you you’re “just angry”, and suggest that your anger is “racially motivated”.

Well Played, Sir Guy, Sir Consiglio and Lady Michaels … Well Played

Apparently today’s self-proclaimed “journalists” just can’t seem to help themselves in losing their objectivity and unbiased approach to reporting on current events and the news in general much the way they would lose their car keys. They typically expose themselves in their media outlets, but of late many step into the social media pool of the unwashed masses and Tweet-Tweet their obvious affliction. Here is the latest via Reuters’ own Anthony De Rosa, who is quickly dealt with (HT: Maggie’s Farm)…

5:48 pm: At the beginning of the day, I noted an ugly tweet by Reuters’ Anthony De Rosa. One response to De Rosa was sufficiently embarrassing and, uh, viral enough to make the wire service’s social media editor remove his tweet.

Meanwhile, in other news, two TV co-anchors in Bangor, Maine (were rumored to be fed-up with the recent election cycle and upper management’s dictating of political preference) pulled a surprise on-air resignation at the end of Tuesday’s news broadcast.
