    I live in Miami. If there is any city in the states that bore the brunt of full fledged power immigration, its this city. And yes, while the city changed and is heavily hispanic and influenced as such, I challenge that you take any second generation Cuban at high school level and have them write anything in correct Spanish. It wont happen. The language skills are the first to go. Sure, they can speak it pretty well, and Spanglish abounds here, but the core of Miami remains American.

  2. I retract that (can I do that?), let me clarify…eventually assimilation does happen in later generations not immediately though in the migrating generation. I agree w/ you.
