I mentioned yesterday that one of the reasons I started this blog and jump into this fray day after day is so that the next generation of Cuban-Americans and Americans born of Cuban parents in exile understand our reality. While it’s important to assimilate, one must know their past so as not to relive it.
Yesterday, I received an email from a young Cuban-American thanking me for my work here in Babalu and attached was a link to a blog piece she wrote inspired by the article in the Miami Herald on Monday.

The post, she said, is dedicated to me because I am the epitomy of Miami. I fought the lump in my throat as I read it.

Like Auspicious1, I haven?t traveled to Cuba nor will I ever travel there as long as the reason for me leaving continuous to exist. As long as apartheid is being practiced there, as long as I must get a visa to travel to the country where I was born. To me it?s a matter of principle that the years in exile have not been able to dissipate.
