Alarcon Defends Imprisonment of ‘Independent Librarians’ in Cuba, Cites Washington’s Funding of Anti-Castro Groups in Havana

In 2003, Cuba arrested seventy-five people – among them around ten librarians. Columnist Nat Hentoff among others has written extensively about this. Hentoff recently quoted author Ray Bradbury who wrote Fahrenheit 451, a book condemning the practice of book burning. Bradbury said he had a message for Cuba. He said “I plead with Castro and his government to immediately take their hands off the independent librarians and release all those librarians in prison and to send them back into Cuban culture to inform the people.” Alcaron responds to this.

Finally, Ricardo Alarcon discusses what Cuba would like to see happen with the Cuban-born anti-Castro militant Luis Posada Carriles.

To all the defenders of the evil regime of fidel here in the States I ask: How can you justify your defense when they tell you straight out they are willing to imprison people for their beliefs?

  1. I honestly don’t understand this.

If this were to happen in the US — namely, imprisonment for “independent librarians” (say, the activist librarians, their phrase not mine, who staged a huge drive to get Moore’s Stupid White Men better circulated in US public libraries, read the story of this “Cuba traveller” librarian who started it), there would be no END to the outcry of Fascist Pig Bush!!.

Oh no, but when it’s happening over in Cuba, then not a peep is uttered to condemn this by left-leaning persons/activists/fellow librarians in the US??

Come on. This disgusts me beyond belief.

Thanks for posting this, though, George.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  2. Ann Sparanese is the vilest human being, I met her in Washington DC at the American Library Association meeting – she looks like an evil hippy – she is in the service of Castro’s dictatorship. She is also a member of the Venceremos Brigade! She lies about Cuba!

  3. Old “Cabeza de Bote” Alarcon is at it again. When the media is around, no se pierde ni un bautizo de mu?eca to be on the news.

  4. Alarc?n, ese “adalid” de la democracia cubana

  5. I know all of you realize these loono-left types do not think – if you can call it that – conventionally, rationally, objectively, and with attention to proven facts and plain truth. You name it. Rather than being frustrated, let us continue the good work of spreading the truth, speaking truth to power, and countering lunatic double-think with ironclad facts and figures.

Realize too these people are mighty upset because they no longer have a monopoly in the media, thanks to the Web and other means of free communication which have grown so much in the past 10 years. This forces types like melonhead Alarcon to lamely attempt to “excuse” his mis-government’s behavior in a public forum, so that his “zolialist” bullkaka can be countered/rebutted, and exposes the double-speak irrationality and lying ways of his masters for those who know to read between the lines. 10 years ago, these book-burning heirs of the NSDAP brownshirts would have easily buried the whole issue or would have gotten a few sympathetic “independent” journalists to write pieces on the subject, thus providing a one-sided view on the issue. They can no longer do this.

  6. Damn! Still can’t spell. Shoulda had some Cuban coffee before writing the post above. I meant to say “zozialist” bullkaka.

Ugh. You mean like the ones in the Main Library downtown…

she is in the service of Castro’s dictatorship. She is also a member of the Venceremos Brigade! She lies about Cuba!

So I looked up her pic, because, you know, I’m a weirdo masochist.

Indeed, I found a photo online, and was suitably disgusted with flashbacks of the umpteen number of progressive librarians I’ve met throughout the years (pobrecita de mi).

Adding insult to injury, she was being hugged by unuseful idiot, Michael Moore.

But wait, as Ron Popeil says…there’s more!

I noticed the tell-tale domain ending in the pic shown: .cu — Cuba??

And then I clicked on the main site. Biblioteca Nacional de Cuba (Jose Marti).

I swear to you, I almost upchucked.

    Cheers,
    Victoria
