The persistence of time rumors.

We’re going on day four of the latest fidel castro is dead rumors. Here are a couple more uncorroborated reports and speculations:

– Hugo Chavez supposedly took an “urgent flight” to Cuba yesterday afternoon along with other high ranking Cuban officials. Details or news accounts of same unavailable.

– Granma once again published articles profiling Raul Castro, heir apparent to the dictator throne.

WHPC reports that there is much action in Cuba at the moment, with reports from Granma stating that workers are “waging a fierce battle” in attempts to have construction and other related project complete for a huge July 26 island wide celebration. WHPC also speculates that said projects and celebration and construction may be some kind of secret preparations for an elaborate state funeral for the bearded dictator.

– Ive also received unconfirmed reports that castro may not be dead, but suffering from Parkinsons or Alzeimers and not in control of his mental faculties. (natch)

– Several sources have emailed stating that they have been unable to communicate with family and loved ones on the island for several days. Other sources have emailed saying they have been in communication with family in Cuba but have heard nothing of the rumors.

– I personally have yet to hear from certain sources in Cuba via email.

– There have been no reports from local news media regarding the rumors to my knowledge.

Unfortunately, that’s all I have that I feel I can publish at the moment without helping perpetuate the rumors. As I’ve said all along, we have but to wait until July 26 for verification. Should fidel not appear on his holiday, chances are he is either at death’s door or begging Satan not to make him recite the Pledge of Allegiance of the US in perpetuity for all eternity.

Stay tuned.

  1. He may be on his deathbed. Or he may have become too feeble to be murderer in chief anymore. Now that you mention it though, there have been a multitude of Raul Castro puff pieces in the Western media lately.
Fidel will really stink up the trash heap of history.

  2. El sumo hijo de puta is expected at the Mercorsur Cumbre in Cordoba, Argentina, which takes place on July 20/21.

Should he not appear in Argentina he must appear on Cuban TV talking about why he didn’t go.

No rumors are circulating in Cuba right now.

  3. I’m too young to remember the overwhelmng majority of the times this rumor has come up. Anybody know what was (more or less) the longest time something like this was talked about before Fidel made an appearance or otherwise put the rumor to rest?

  4. Well we have passed three days, which is good. He will not rise again if he is dead.

That Granma preparation thing published by WHPC is interesing. They knew July 26th was coming, why so much extraordinary effort all of the sudden?

  5. The place to watch will be Centro Habana. Unusual police movements etc. Tanks cannot operate in the narrow streets of Centro.

Raul knows he can’t take anything for granted. As soon as Kagasstro’s death is announced he must be prepared for anything.

We will see tanks on the Malecon (of course to “fight off a US invasion”) before the death is announced.

  7. Maybe on July 26, Raul will do to Fidel what Ximena did to El Cid after he died. According to the legend she had El Cid’s body strapped to his horse and sent him into battle.

  8. Sometimes these rumors that castro is dying come directly from Cuba and they are done to demoralize the Cuban people who wishing that the beast dies become disappointed when he inevitably shows up in public several days later and jokes about how healthy he is. On the other hand, something could be wrong with him. Sometimes there is a shred of truth to these rumors. At times when we have heard that he is dead, it’s been said that something has happened to his health. Wasn’t there an assassination attempt on his life back in the 90s and the beast being the coward that he is [se cago en los pantalones] even though he wasn’t hurt in the shoot-out and he was hospitalized from the shock and from minor heart-attack??

In any case, these rumors of his death have happened far too many times for me to get my hopes up high. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, but not allow ourselves to be used again by his sick manipulative ways anymore.

  9. Oh, heck, why not stir the pot with speculation. Raul’s just as ancient as Fidel. He’s no solution for their succession problem. But Chavez, now there’s a young man on the move! Why not merge the two nations in a Bolivarian Republic? The embargo will either break or the US will have to find a great deal of oil elsewhere on very short notice.

  10. If I remember correctly, Raul is 5 years younger.
I think Fidel is 81 and Raul 76. I am Not sure? It may be 82 and 77? But both are nearing the end naturally!

  11. Chavez would love to run Cuba and Venezuela – and knowing him he’s probably trying. I just don’t see Cubanos putting up with a Venezuelan (for long).

I think it is pretty clear that RC is taking over after the bearded thug is officialy ™ declared dead. But how long he can last only God knows.

  12. We can spin our wheels speculating about his demise but it has to be officially announced. Rumors have come and gone and he’s still alive. His time will come.
