Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps!
The Marine’s Prayer
Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose in deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.
If I am inclined to doubt; steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer. Amen.
“To err is human, to forgive divine. Neither one is the policy of the US Marines”
a bumper sticker I saw once.
aw, you remembered… out of highschool i had this feeling of debt i owed to this country, ran straight to the recruiting station, signed up, and tore up some tendons in bwt, basic warrior training, 10 days from graduation.. i cried and begged to my sdi (senior drill instructor, he’s the nice one, like your daddy) to let me stay.. he said something ill never forget.. he said “alvarez, being a marine, serving and loving your country, doesnt mean you have to graduate and wear this uniform, its something you carry within your heart.. being a marine isnt in the cards for you, but i havent met many more marines who have the same attitude of debt, service, and love that you have..” senior drill instructor staff sargeant hines, wherever you are, thanks…
A heart felt congratulations to ALL the men and women of THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORP.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
Semper Fi ….. a heartfelt congrats and equally strongfelt THANK YOU for your service.
“The Few, The Proud …” — maybe they should be running the country.
Somewhere in western Iraq, 2nd Marines 3/2 L Co is now humping 50 to 100 lbs per man while chasing the scum that today proclaimed they would not stop until the White House is trashed. No one dragged our boys from their beds to serve in the USMC, they do it while vile people in America plot their dishonor, those people are cowards hiding behind the very same freedoms our marines protect. Remember ungrateful punks tucked in cozy newsrooms and California movie sets: “People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf” George Orwell.
marines and army cavalry are among the us military’s top warriors. and so it is that i want to revisit the persian gulf war. in this 100 hour battle the 1/2 cavalry based in bavaria germany was airlifted into arabia. from there they went on a daring left hook around and into wetern iraq. here they surprised stunned republican guards tank units. the half cav as they are known just about blew them away.in hours of running tanker warfare these army soldiers decimated the vaunted iraqi military vanguard, with no loss of their own, so here’s a big cavalry salute to those men whose patch has the motto toujours pret which is french for always ready. in addition on their patch is the symbol of the fleur de lis.
