I loved this paragraph:
“One illegal bicycle taxi driver said he had tried to obtain a license but could not afford the $150 bribe demanded by municipal officials. He said he made 30 to 40 pesos a day (about $1.25) after paying 30 pesos to rent the bicitaxi from its owner, who manages a fleet of 15 unlicensed bikes. The racket nets the bike owner, a state university professor, up to 10,000 pesos ($400) a month.”
This is like finding a flower among a garbage strewned “solar.” This university professor esta resolviendo. An, through his initiative he is helping at least 15 other families to resolver.
A small shining light of enterprise and initiative in the darkness of state controlled inefficiency. Yet, this very same professor could end up in jail for several years for this. It’s an Alice in Wonderland non-sense universe this inept system has created.
one of my favorite scenes in casablanca, is oh so appropriate here:
Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.
[aloud]
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once!
SURPRISE, SURPRISE; THE PREMISE OF THE ROBO LUTION WAS TO GET RID OF CORRUPTION AND WE HAVE NOW THE MOST CORRUPT DISGOVERNMENT EVER IN OUR MOTHERLAND.
