Ileostomy, ileostomy, where forth art thou, ileostomy? (Updated)

El Pais, via CNN, is reporting more details regarding yesterday’s “breaking news” on fidel castro’s health. This report’s a doozy:

According to unnamed medical sources that El Pais said are familiar with Castro’s case, Castro decided against undergoing an ileostomy — in which an artificial anus is opened to the abdomen — when he had problems with diverticulitis in July.

I guess old fidel prefered to be an single assholed asshole, as opposed to being a dual asshole asshole.

Update: The first two comments in this post are interesting. First, from PLP:

I stand corrected, PLP. The last line of this post should read:

  6. you guys would not believe how funny rhc can be.. its comic relief.. now, they have an excellent music program, great, great jazz and cuban music.. and for those into radio/ shortwave they have an excellent program as well, arnie coro the electronics/ science/ radio guy is considered an expert in this field by many.. the bad thing is that lots of people “in to” these thingsworldwide listen in to these programs and they also here the castro spin on world events, thats their trick.. every freakin day they dedicate about 15 minutes to “the five”, in english, french, spanish, portuguese, la misma cantaleta.. once a week in esperanto!! but the real gem is the news and history sections.. the other day they were talking about the spanish-american war.. not going into details, but lets just say everything you know is wrong.. EVERYTHING.. btw, for those curious, el caballero de paris died i think they said in 85 and has a statue.. saddam went to the gallows a gallant, brave man.. and elian has sent a get well card to his papi fidel.. he would like to visit, but the exitement may be counter-productive to fidels recuperation.. its like listening to the onion sometimes..

Here is the supreme irony: much as we would wish Castro to wallow forever in his prison of shit — a Dantesque punishment if there ever was one — we must actually pray that he be put out of his misery soon because his worthless life is preempting the lives of more than ten millions Cubans who are guilty of nothing but to have suffered his feculent presence among them for 48 years.

If it is true what the Spanish paper is saying, and he in his everlasting omnipotent way elected which operation was going to be conducted on him, rather than an expert in the field, then isn’t just poetic justice that he’s agonizing and in pain and breathing his last breaths thanks to himself???

    A profound observation.

    It was usually the hapless Cuban people who had to pay the price for Castro’s illusion of omniscience (complete and universal knowledge). Now it is Castro himself who has fallen into his own trap. Let us hope that he can still continue to direct his own treatment.

  10. Castro is a textbook case of megalomania, with a good helping of paranoia thrown in. It’s entirely in character that he’d play doctor. He’s played pretty much everything else, with results ranging from laughable to tragic, but he’s never once seen that as his fault or folly. It’s never his fault. He’s never wrong. It’s always someone or something else that fails. There are many forms of mental illness, many of which don’t involve seeing things, hearing voices or acting overtly like a deranged lunatic. He’s always been sick. Always.
