  1. Are you feeling down that there are no real conservatives running in the GOP party? Well take a look at this.

Fred Thompson is serious about the presidential bid. Out of all the bums running I like this bum the best. I wonder what his policies would be to free Cuba from Communism? How do my hermanos y hermanas feel about Fred running? Ever hear of any stands he took on Cuba? He was senator during Elian…….where did he stand then?!?!?!?!?!

  2. Fred has two problems. First, his role as House minority “counsel” during the Watergate hearings. Dems will surely make a stink about it. Second, what do most know about him, aside from the fact that he’s on Law and Order? That may work against also.

  3. Danny a “counsel” is a lawyer not a defendant. And as for what Americans know about him, I’ll say this: Bedtime for Bonzo.

He has name recognition, but that’s not what will get him elected if he runs. He is a very good communicator and I think people like him.

  5. I know he was counsel (lawyer) dude, but the dems hold that against anyone who tried to help Nixon and the party. Remember what they did to Bork. Come on Hank gimme more credit than that.

  6. I suppose this is more of a depressing rant than anything else but . . . what the hell.

I’m not so sure anything will ever really change in Cuba these days. More and more, I am coming to the belief that the damage done is irreversible, that nothing will change upon Castro’s disappearance from the scene and that those Cubans living abroad will never be able to return.

Every year it seems, something happens on the island to rekindle the hopes of millions. What ends up happening? Nothing. Everytime people on and off the island get their hopes up – they soon find that it was all for nothing. That the system remains.

Let’s be frank here – much of the world gives a damn about Cuba – this is why so many support the repression of her citizens. Folks would rather vacation in a sultry revolutionary “paradise” then help bring about positive change.

I truly fear that Cuba is done. Finished. Finito. Acabado. Dead. There is no need to dream anymore.

Sorry for posting such a downer but, hell – it’s an open thread and I suppose I was just a bit sad.

    Cheers,

    -Gabriel

  7. Sorry, I meant to type:

Let’s be frank here – much of the world DOESN’t give a damn about Cuba –

  8. Danny,

I knew you knew that, I didn’t mean to imply that you didn’t. My point is that it’s easily defended. Attorney’s represent all manner of people. Many representatives and senators represented murderers as defense attorneys.

They got all over Bork because he was consevrative. Remember the President doesn’t get elected or confirmed by the Senate.

  10. Oh MY! It was Fred’s question that discovered that there were tapings which eventually led to the downfall of Nixon.

But also he took down a dirty TN gov who was extorting pardons for dollars. They even made a movie about and guess who played fred? FRED!

BORK? That was before the drive by media lost their turf to Rush Limbaugh, Babalublog.com, and the internet! trust me….I was there, Fox news was not there. We have a better shot electing Fred than Frutty Rudy.

James Dobson says Fred is not a visably practicing Christian, but I think he can overcome that.

Here is my slogan: “Vote for Fred or we’re dead!”
