Some deal this is, “India agrees to waive $62 million in Cuban debt” and Indian taxpayers get to pay the bill for companies foolish enough to do business with Cuba. Mr. Snake Oil himself, Felipe Perez Roque supplied the grease.
Have no doubt; if the U.S. embargo is lifted, we”ll all be doing the same.
NEW DELHI: India has agreed to waive $62 million in Cuban commercial debt — $29 million in principal and $33 million in interest, officials in the External Affairs Ministry told this correspondent on Thursday.
Interestingly, New Delhi’s decision relates to debt that the Cuban Government owes private Indian companies, and has a special significance given India’s growing ties with the United States and Washington’s troubled equation with Havana.
Always the slithering hypocrite, Roque included this deceit in his remarks criticizing the U.S.:
On the formation of Left-leaning governments that objected to “neo-liberal policies” in Latin America, Mr. Roque said every country had the right to choose its own path according to the prevailing conditions.
Last I checked Cuba hasn’t had an election in 48 years.

It’s important to highlight the reason why Cuba will never be able to pay off the debts it’s incurring: Communism DOESN’T WORK. Any investment in that system is like investing in that greek cruise ship that sank. Cuba will never “turn a profit” as a country until there are meaningful economic reforms. The kind of reforms that make Cubans more self-suffucient. That’s why Castro, inc. will never go for them wholeheartedly as long as the man with (at least) two anuses is alive.

Ziva:
Such may be a payoff to avoid trouble in nearby SriLanka, where Cuban government ships have been cauht attempting to supply weaponry to Tamil Tigers.
Larry, I hadn’t heard that. That makes this an even more foolish attempt at appeasing the monster. Cuba has been and continues to be a force of evil. I despair at the U.S. or any world body ever accepting that reality.
