The current unrest in Venezuela that comes on the heels of the dictator Hugo Chavez’ closure of RCTV, one of the few remaining independent voices in that country, may be the last best hope for a return toward democratic institutions. Chavez has systematically destroyed many of those institutions. Don’t blow this opportunity friends. If you do, you may regret it for half a century or more.
Cuba’s future also largely lies in Venezuelan hands today. Without Venezuela’s give-aways to the castro dictatorship, none of the economic “increases” in Cuba would be possible.
