MSNBC’s Today Show web site, reflecting the shows biased broadcast from Cuba has an article by contributor Peter Greenberg that provides a free travel ad for the regime.
His article, on how soon a Havana holiday may no longer be off-limits, discusses how Americans, in spite of the embargo are enjoying vacations at Cuba’s resorts.
They enjoy “inclusive travel through any one of five other countries — Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands or the Bahamas. They’ve paid local tour operators there in U.S. dollars for trips that cover their airfare, hotels, transfers, taxes, tips, meals.”
I’m sure many of our readers have seen the videos and photos some of these vacationing Americans have posted at YouTube, or Flickr. The beautiful beaches, the gorgeous pools, the friendly staff, etc. Few venture away from the tourist areas.
U.S. hotel companies — through their foreign subsidiaries — have been “prospecting,” doing handshake deals on properties throughout Cuba, signing quiet conditional deals to kick in the minute things change and they are allowed to do business.
He reports that” despite U.S. administration efforts to the contrary, on any given day in Cuba, there are as many as 2,000 American tourists — no, these aren’t the folks who are Cuban Americans visiting friends and relatives. Or officially licensed travelers on humanitarian missions. They are American tourists, who fly in from any of five secondary countries — Bahamas, Jamaica, Canada, Mexico or the Cayman Islands. All eager to experience Cuba before Fidel checks out.
“In fact, American tourists are not only staying in Cuban hotels, many from the Southeastern U.S. are even sailing their pleasure boats into Havana and staying in the Hemingway marina.”
The article continues with the usual anti-embargo “for 50 years the policy hasn’t worked” parrot talk, and the pending legislation that will finally put an end to this silliness.
He ends thus:
“Indeed, for the first time in nearly 44 years, Cuba may be no longer officially off-limits.”
Except for the Cubans, who are once again brushed aside without notice. No mention of them not being allowed in Cuba’s tourist areas.
To these hollow amoral opportunists the embargo is a nuisance that prevents them from making a buck, nothing more. That’s all they care about, fattening their wallets. No matter if it’s earned from the blood of an oppressed voiceless people.
Matt Lauer, his staff, and NBC are nothing more than cheerleaders for a brutal dictator, and no amount of kissing the regimes ass, or pretty party pictures broadcast from Cuba changes that fact.
You can read it here.
I hate to say it but greed always trumps morality.
Sigh.
