It was revealed last night that Fidel’s appearance on Mesa Redonda was taped on Monday. The Cuban government’s leading propaganda news hour is normally run as a live-feed, which leads one to question why it was necessary to pre-tape Fifo’s appearance. I no longer believe the man is dead – given the new images disseminated during the recent visit of Vietnam’s Communist Party chief – however, this pre-recorded appearance certainly adds to the mountain of evidence that the “maximum leader” isn’t recovering as expected.
Babalu readers can watch the appearance here.

Taped “Monday,” but did they mention what year?
Anatasio,
I was asking myself the same question. Why taped? It will be good to get some one who is in the field of editing to look at the video. Maybe they can catch something we don’t see. If he is doing so wel, why wasn’t it live? Send a message to your people. That only tells me that they are not sure what the incoherent “double” asshole is going to say. He didn’t seem right in the video. He paused too many times.
Indeed, I saw an old man with slurred speech, a weak voice and a very halting manner of speaking not normally associated with Fifo. The man may have been brought back from the brink of death but from what I can tell – that’s only a very temporary situation. This man is 100% on his way out.

Live video? Are you kidding? Who do you think you’re dealing with here? These people are ALL about manipulation and shaping appearances to suit temselves. They would never risk letting him go on live. There’s no telling how much rehearsing, coaching, re-shooting and tweaking went on. And you’d better believe they’d never release any footage they felt was sufficiently compromising. I mean, why have complete control of the media if you’re not going to take advantage of it?
I’m sorry, but I’m maybe that I had a bad satellite on my cable but was the audio out of sync with the video portions of this “interview”. I mean it seems that this video was from a while back (like at least five years ago) and just certain audio portions were dubbed in. I saw the entire video on Channels 23 and cable channel 22 (MegaTV) and at the end of the “segment” the “interviewer” came on the Cuban program looking at least 20 lbs lighter. Does Cuba have the cure for obesity in less than 24 hours? Just my observation.
I can’t read lips but it appears that the audio and video are not in sync.
Juan and Felix,
I noticed the same thing about not being in sync, but I thought it was that I needed to have my eyes checked, but obviously you both saw the same thing. I could hardly understand his slurred speech and he just rambled on and on, as usual, but this time it was more incoherent. He jumped talking about the heat in Vietnam to a school inaguration in Tanzania and the heat, and then back to the potholes in the bridges and streets of Vietnam, all in one sentence. It was almost as if his brain was jumping from memory to memory. This is very typical of Dementia and Altzheimer, as I have experienced this type of speech from relatives diagnosed with Dementia. I am not a doctor, but his dementia was quite obvious.
Because Fidel has the mind of perhaps a 3 year old now since his stroke. It’s why he is shown only with non Spanish people him in videos. They are being told what Fidel is supposed to be saying using his interpreter – not his childish babble.
This was so scripted. But I think the tell tale sign was when everyone started clapping for fidel he started clapping almost as if mimicking others. It was quite pathetic. It looked like a senile old man who was led by the leash and the leash came loose and he didn’t know what to do.
