Michelle Malkin quotes Humberto Fontova today, in a post asking ¿Dónde está Fidel Castro?.
Read Humberto’s as usual excellent take at Front Page right here as well as the VOA’s right here. And the following quote, from Ricardo Chavira of the Star Tribune, is resonant to my first post this morning:
Fidel’s death will be momentous, but will it bring a violent upheaval?
Almost certainly it will not. However, his passing will enormously increase pressure on Raul to take swift and decisive action on the economic front. Failure to do so could unleash pent-up frustration among a people weary of endless sacrifice.
I think Michelle put it quite succinctly:
Tick, tick, tick.
Val:
You forgot to say that Humberto Fontova is el “cirujano”!
All Castro II has to do is maintain the domestic staus quo, make a few cosmetic adjustments (mainly for foreign consumption), and keep Chavez paying the gas bill. The latter may actually prove more difficult than the former, but Chavez may be enough of a blockhead to keep flushing billions down the Cuban toilet, in memory of the great love of his life. I expect a long and extremely, uh, moving farewell letter is already prepared for the bereaved.
Unless the Half-Brother-in-Chief really bungles things, or there’s a serious power struggle at the top, I doubt there will be significant change generated by ordinary citizens any time soon. If I’m wrong, of course, then great.
