How about some mail to start the day/week?
Please don’t have your readers on your blog be so naive…
Real simple…HE IS DEAD…..ESTA MUERTO!…..Please don’t have your readers on your blog be so naive!…..Seriously think about it, you know and I know….. if he is NOT then let the Cuban Government prove it to the world. It won’t because they are preparing for the worst when they announce his death….and they want to slowly let it out to make that transition. On another point you know why they won’t right now, because Cuban Military and US Military have been in secret talks for months now….anyone can read the news internationally…Raul has started to make cautious changes in Cuba which is a sign of plans for political and economic reform. Since he took over dozens of dissidents have been released. The Cuban Military has been extending there talks out to Washington and there is talk of easing communist controls on property and agricultural production. Read the news….three political prisoners have been freed, the latest being Armando Betancourt Reina, a journalist jailed for 15 months after reporting on the eviction of a family in Camagüey. As I do my research online….analysts say Raul was experimenting with stealth reforms to improve living conditions and morale without eroding government control. Raul wants to make life more bearable. He made his points in his speech on July 26th 2007, besides he has been in the dark for years behind Fidel and now he wants to do it a little different. Castro is DEAD.
It never ceases to amaze me how ordinarily smart people sometimes failt to put two and two together. To wit: how anyone can think fidel castro is not dead. See, at this point, the onus is not upon us to prove he’s dead, the onus is upon the Cuban government to prove he’s alive. And I can tell you right here and now, some little “editorial” supposedly written by fidel castro in a communist rag in Cuba aint gonna cut it.
CNN is in Cuba. CBS, the AP and who know how many other members of the esteemed heads up their butts when it comes to fidel castro MSM. If fidel castro were alive, and the Cuban government had any inclination to prove same, they would allow any one of these news sources access to the dictator, if even for a photo op.
fidel castro is dead. Worm food. Sleeping with the fishes. Playing pattycake with Satan.
hehehe…pattycake with satan
pushing up daisies
assumed room temperature
Esta muertisimo y nosotros los sabemos. Se va a formar el corre corre!!!!y por eso no lo quieren anunciar. Val is right, they have to prove he is alive at this point.
The thing I ask myself is this: how can we be so CERTAIN he’s dead? Maybe? Possibly? Probably? Sure. All those things and more. He could also be comatose with machines keeping him alive. All these are certainly possibilities right now.
I also have to ask myself: por que tanto apuro (why the rush)? The guy is going to die one of these days if he hasn’t already. We’ve waited 48 years for it to happen. A few more days, weeks or even months at this point isn’t going to make much of a difference in the long run.
I can’t resist:
‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!
Are you sure he’s not resting? He’s probably pining for the fjords, or at the very least the Sierra Maestra.
Is Fidel no more? Has he ceased to be? Has he expired and gone to meet ‘is maker?
You’re telling us Fidel is bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace, kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible?!? So Fidel is an ex-Dick-tator.
Very well then, when’s the party at your place??
Retread, we were typing at the same time, no mean to steal your thunder
Val, we all want him to be dead, but we really can’t say this definitively- to say he is definitely D-E-A-D is speculative on our part. There is a big difference between physical death and metaphorical death, quite obviously. Even if he’s on a ventilator, he’s still alive, even though he may be in the last stages of life. Could we please label speculation as such, rather than as incontrovertible truth, until we see him in his coffin?
Lucha,
Have you seen him on a ventilator? What makes your opinion worth more than mine? When’s the last time anyone outside the elite cubgan circles saw him?
The ONUS is on the Cuban governmnet to prove he’s alive.
Hey Val, where’s that crisp $20?
LOL nico. I know, I know. I owe you twenty bucks. I keep forgettin’
you can just send me a shirt if you want, L

At supper.

At supper! where?
VAL
Not where he eats, but where he is eaten: a certain
convocation of politic worms are e’en at him. Your
worm is your only emperor for diet: we fat all
creatures else to fat us, and we fat ourselves for
maggots: your fat king and your lean beggar is but
variable service, two dishes, but to one table:
that’s the end.

Alas, alas!
Where is castronius?

… if you find him not within
this month, you shall nose him as you go up the
stairs into the lobby.
Until it is announced in Granma, it doesn’t matter is he has assumed room temperature or not. Until then, everything is status quo.
The good thing about the rumors is that they now have to prove his aliveness. Supposedly he had a tracheotomy to prolong the inevitable. Either way, he shouldn’t be buying any green bananas.
The two back to back Monty Python references were awesome.
Val-
You miss my point- I am simply emphasizing that you and I are not privy to his exact condition at this moment. Obviously I don’t know if he’s on a ventillator or not, any more than you know he is definitively dead or not. We are engaging in speculation. I never insinuated that my opinion is worth more than yours, I am only trying to emphasize what it is we actually know, and what we can definitively say at this point.
Yes, the prevailing sentiment in this forum is that he is dead- that HAS NOT been confirmed, and nobody here claim otherwise. Leaders of Communist dictatorships are notorious for going on extended sabbaticals, far from public view- we have to wait and see whether this one is a permanent one or not.
How’s this for poetic justice, I’m going to quote Stalin:
“Death solves all problems – no man, no problem.”
You can always quote Hamlet in just about any situation…
Alas, poor castro, I knew him well…
Well, we can always find consolation in the bard.
“… If it be now,
’tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be now;
if it be not now, yet it will come:
the readiness is all.”
Ruth, indeed. Your quote brought a smile to my face. Those are my all-time favorite Hamlet lines.
We defy augury: there’s a special
providence in the fall of a sparrow…
Lucha,
I didnt miss your point. Trust me, I got it. The problem is we dont know a damned thing because the Cuban government doesnt want us to know a damned thing. And I wont allow the Cuban government to muzzle me like they have done to the natives. Im not in Cuba, therefore it is perfectly legal and alright for me to “speculate” as to the health of fidel castro, unlike my cuban brethren on the island.
Everyone here can make up there own minds about whether or not he’s alive or he’s worm food. Im not stopping them nor am I stating that castro is dead as “fact.”
Im stating what I believe to be the case at this particular moment in time and so far, as far as im concerned, no one has proven me wrong.
Val-
“Im stating what I believe to be the case at this particular moment in time and so far, as far as im concerned, no one has proven me wrong.”
Val, with all due respect, you have not “proven” anything- you have engaged in speculation- astute speculation, yet it is speculation nonetheless. All we know is that the government is playing games, and Fidel probably isn’t doing well. We don’t know he’s dead. Yet. Im not denying anyone to make up their minds on whats going on- just the opposite. So speculate on, conjecture on- but if we are going to say he’s definitively dead, we have to wait for a corpse.
…MORE THAN WHAT YOU THINK MISTER LUCHA….
Sorry Val but I have to post it…
Fidel Castro…It doesn’t make a difference anymore….he has become totally irrelevant. He’s as good as dead, even if he is not clinically dead yet. When Raul had the daunting task to speak on July 26th of this year…we have to say that the relief of the effigy of Fidel on the podium where Raul spoke, was a good signal for all of us to understand that the days of Fidel are a thing of the past. IT IS OVER !! Enjoy, his plug has been pulled for once and all. I have to say that this Friday’s so-called “rumors,” didn’t launch a mass of people to the sea in go-fast boats in Miami…but in my opinion the rumors were perhaps launched by “BIG BROTHER” for the authorities to get a glimpse of the reaction of Miami’s Cuban community, if you know what I mean.
I also think it gave the Cuban government another piece of intelligence, I.E., “Don’t launch a rumor before the announcement”. I stand on what I have conveyed..he (Fidel Castro) is DEAD! and the announcement will come, it will catch us off guard but everybody will be moved, both in Cuba and in the United States. THOUGH I must say the Cuban Government will try to prolong his death (as they are doing now) to have Fidel’s legacy live on for as long as possible….for example with there BS… reflections of the commandant articles in the Granma newspaper…give me a break! Trust me the United States government will be privy to (Castro’s death) and with respect (yes as silly as it may seem) to the Cuban Government allow them to make the announcement first, even if it takes a good amount of time to do so.
Dead or alive, who cares!
For the ones that write and voice there opinions on “how can you state that he is DEAD if it hasn’t been announced,” very simple…WHO CARES! HE ISN”T COMING BACK!
Fidel is DEAD….Cuba is in its FIRST stage of Freedom!
THIS UPCOMING LABOR DAY: As a Cuban-American…(born in Cuba) this up coming Labor Day weekend which basically signifies a day of rest for the “working man,” and with all the BS talk of Fidel…..In honor of all my ancestors and the hard work my parents have endured in this country, I will be smoking my cigar, drinking a cold beer and reminiscing the hardship days of their hard work to give me the freedom I have today.
So…enjoy it…maybe the party we all want, or are anticipating, won’t be as big but we CUBANS are finally one step closer to being FREE!
(I only wished my grandparents were alive to see it).
