Oh those wacky media liberals…

You just gotta’ love ’em.

“A Gulag Breeds Rage, Yes, but Also Serenity”
— New York Times headline over article on last Soviet political prisoners being released, February 12, 1992.

How about this one:

“For Castro, freedom starts with education. And if literacy alone were the yardstick, Cuba would rank as one of the freest nations on Earth. The literacy rate is 96 percent.”
— Barbara Walters on ABC’s 20/20, October 11, 2002.

You can read a few more of these wacky quotes from the media’s liberal glitterati HERE.

  1. I can remember all the hue and cry in the 70’s and 80’s about the Holocaust — how could people be so blind and let this happen?
    Well, any more questions?
It is rightly a taboo to be a Nazi Holocaust denier. But unfortunately, it is every bit as much a taboo to NOT be a denier of the Communist Holocaust.
(Another question — how is it that Guantanamo can’t also “breed serenity”?)

  2. yeah I love it…the libs say
“Mao, Stalin, Castro, and Lenin, not bad people, only misunderstood….”
    oy vay…

  3. JFK cannot bear the responsibility all by himself. The whole plan was a failed and was cooked up by the Eisenhower administration. Allen Dulles and co. should also get the heat. I’m not defending JFK because but he did take full responsibility for the whole fiasco. Ultimately it IS his fault, but I just wanted to point out he was not alone.

  4. Drojo,
Trust me, IT WAS Kennedy’s fault, and anyone that was involved in the operation will tell you the exact same thing.
The Bay of Pigs was a failure because of politics, not because of the plan or anything else.

  5. Drojo, I assume your reference to JFK pertains to the Bay of Pigs and Duncan Hunter’s remarks.
Since day one, the blame for the failure of the invasion was placed on everyone but JFK. Later on, when more information came out, JFK had to saddle some of the blame, but he and his defenders made sure to embarrar as many people as possible so as to minimize the negative effects on him. Even decades after his death, people continue to blame the planners, the CIA, his military advisors, etc., for the debacle.
The truth is we will never know whether the plan was bad, inadequate, destined to fail, and so forth because JFK stopped it midstream. By doing so not only will we never know if it would have worked, but the lives of thousands of brave men were either prematurely ended or scarred for eternity.
Only one man stands to blame. And that man is JFK for it was his order, and his order alone, that abandoned those soldiers to fight without the promised support they were expecting and trained for.

  6. He made the pledge to support the Cuban resistance at the famous Kennedy/Nixon debate no less. He was the one who forced the change in landing site from Trinidad :heart of the Cuban underground, to Playa Giron; because the landing would be more inconspicuous. He prevented the USS Essex and assorted battle group from intervening.
The book and miniseries “The Company” attributed
the failure to an American Philby, Angleton’s Sacha; deeply involved in both the assasination plots and other subsidiary projects. In reality leftist Guatemalan dock workers were the source of the Soviet leak. As a result he had a
“Hungary” in our backyard. The Berlin confrontation; the Cuban Missile Crisis, which fulfilled Khruschev’s promise in the summer of ’60. As Mark Moyar points out in Triumph Forsaken; these same successes were replicated
in Vietnam; even before the first troop deployment
    in ’65

  7. I suppose I shouldn’t let it bother me so much, since she’s ultimately just one more amoral opportunist ready to prostitute herself for the sake of her career, but Barbara Walters really rubs me the wrong way.
To paraphrase her slimy statement quoted in this post, if the yardstick for great journalism were how low the journalist was willing to stoop to get ahead, then she’d rank very high indeed.

  8. “For Hitler, freedom starts with racial purity. And if such purity alone were the yardstick, Germany would rank as one of the freest nations on earth.”
Would Walters have ever made such a vile statement? How is that statement any different, in principle, from the statement she DID make? The woman is beneath contempt.
