From the mailbag:
Dear Mr. Prieto:
It is my pleasure to invite you to a Memorial Mass in honor of Cardinal Rosalio Castillo Lara, to be officiated by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick. The mass has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m., February 1, 2008, at St, Matthews Cathedral, 1725 Rhode Island St., N.W. Washington, D.C. 20036. This invitation is being extended to you because you have proven to be a friend of Venezuelans. This is a private act of remembrance by one friend, Cardinal McCarrick, for another friend, Cardinal Castillo Lara.
I’ve been reading your blog for some time and have seen that you are very in tune with events in Venezuela that are very similar to what happened in Cuba. I have a request. Could you publish an announcement in Babalú as it has a significant Venezuelan readership.
Although the Cardinal was a very outspoken critic of the regime, we are not publicizing this to avoid any protest. Cardinal McCarrick was a very good friend of Cardinal Castillo Lara and this is his gesture for his friend.
Please let me know whether you will be able to attend, as I have to report the number of attendees to the organizers in Washington D.C. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
If you’re in DC, please consider attending the mass for Cardinal Castillo. And if you’d like more information, email me and Ill forward contact information.
