Monument to Agression

An old Brazilian guy, Oscar Niemeyer, architect by profession and communist and castro idolater by stupidity, donated a “Plaza-monument” to the people of Cuba. It was inaugurated on January 28.
“The open plaza containing the monument has 20,000 square meters of grey concrete in an ellipse shape with a capacity for 13,500 persons seated” The monument consists of “a monster with its mouth open and a Cuban with a flag confronting it, as a symbol of the resistance of the Cuban people against US aggressions.”
When I came across this “monument’s” picture, my first thought was “well, there’s something else that needs to be leveled when the communist regime finally expires” (along with che guevara’s insidious face on the side of the building bordering the “Plaza Cívica”).
Here’s the picture of the hideous sculpture. Rodin it is not.

But then I started thinking…I know, ouch!…with a blowtorch and a little Cuban ingenuity, maybe we can … resolver….something: A true symbol of the Cuban people confronting the real aggressor. Here’s My proposed enhancement:

Maybe we can get Val’s dad to do the iron work.

  1. Im sure dad’s welding equipment is still buried somehwere in Bayamo. As soon as the tyrants are history, me voy con el viejo para alla. This work he’ll do pro-bono.

  2. Oscar Niemeyer is one of my favorite architects and he is my inspiration in many designs since I am a modernist. But what really turns me off is that he is a big time Stalinist and Fidel supporter. Is he still alive? He has to be like 100?
He was great in the 50s and 60s but this shark thing sucks. Agreed, we should tear it down!
Believe me I feel real bad sometimes that I admire his early work, especially the design for the UN building and Brasillia, or his residential houses – but my heart was broken when I found out he was a tyrant supporter.
I am speaking as an architect, designers, and student of modern architecture.

  3. There are so many aspects of the Castro dictatorship that are horrible, but one of the worst in my eyes is the utter destruction of Cuba’s patrimony, her architectural fabric that took so many years, decades, centuries to create. He destroyed it in a few decades and he continues to do so with these horrible monuments. It’s not bad enough that Matanza has that horrible monument to Che Guevara and I say horrible not so much because Che was a horrible piece of shit that doesn’t deserve any sort of monument, but rather horrible, because it is ascetically horrible. Just like this is ascetically horrible. Just like that monument to Elian is horrible and that other one with the flags in front of the American Mission to Cuba..
As I always say, at least the Soviets for all of their horrors and gulags and deaths created a wonderful world-class subway system with beautiful chandeliers and respected their museums [The Hermitage is still one of the best museums in the world] but Castro just totally destroyed Cuba. There is nothing that will be left over after this nightmare is over that we can be proud of. Just utter destruction.

  4. You have got to be kidding me, that porqueria was made by an adult!? That is the dumbest, most immature piece of public art I have ever seen. Idiot communists.

  5. Is this ridiculously inept piece of propaganda garbage a joke, or is this Brazilian jerk simply WAY too old to know better? I mean, talk about laughable. At least the Soviets, in their salad days, put up tolerably impressive propaganda monuments, but this thing is beyond pitiful.
