Here’s another screen cap of that Obama volunteer office in Texas, via SondraK:
Amazing. Simply amazing. The Butcher of La Cabaña, a well deserved and earned nickname for the murdering Argentine, on a Cuban flag in a U.S. Presidential campaign office, draped next to an American Flag. That’s not just a dichotomy or something akin to an irony, it is downright disgusting.
The spin has already begun, folks. Via Captian Ed we learn that one John Cole finds this action “a courageus statement that our Cuba policy needs to be rethought.” Man, the world truly is full of fucking idiots.
Curt at Flopping Aces offers a stark reminder of the real Che, in the Butcher’s own words:
“To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary…These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution! And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate. We must create the pedagogy of the The Wall! (El Paredón)”
— Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara

Welcome Malkin Readers. I (Henry) thought you might like this video of Ronald Reagan, who told us “yes we can” way before Barack Obama did and who meant us as in us, not us as in the federal government.
fucking idiots? I think you are being too nice. I’d like to see what if anything does Obama’s campaign does to spin this.
Ventanita,
Obama will do absolutely nothing about this except take the flags down and try to sweep it all under the rug. He cant possibly offer a statement saying he doesnt subscribe to Che guevara’s bullshit, as A) he probably DOES agree with Che on many thigs and B)most of his supporters are unbridled che adulators and thus he’d be risking losing their support.
Val –
I’ll bet Daniel Ortega didn’t have a “Che” flag visible during his masquerade/campaign for President of Nicaragua. -S-
Still NOT voting for McCain???
Clearly that flag is insulting to Cuban-Americans.
Unfortunately, there are many disinformed people out there.
This is not an official Obama campaign office though. It’s a volunteer’s office that he/she put up for other volunteers to use. The flag did not belong to the campaign or to anyone officially associated to it.
The campaign ordered the flag to be taken down immediately once it had learned of it.
Now, now, let’s not get all worked up over this. I’m sure it’s just a misunderstanding. No doubt Joe Garcia will have a perfectly, uh, suitable explanation for it.
Missile Crisis,
Dime con quien andas, y te dires quien eres.
Until Obama makes a public statement that he does not adhere or agree wirth Che guevara and his ideals, the above quote is all I need.
This proves it. The Democrat party has swallowed Marxist thought hook, line and sinker. The cold war isn’t over, the front lines are on Main Street, USA.
Missile,
You are right there is a lot of disinformation out there about Che Guevar and more has to be done to combat the Che myths.
Perhaps a statement from Obama about Che Guevara in which he shatters those myths explicitly and explains how Guevara was not a warrior for social justice but instead a blood thirsty Stalinist who took a nice picture that has been used to dupe fools around the world.
I would be glad to publish just such a statement at Babalu and I’m sure many other bloggers would join me.

Nail on the head.

Obama would never do this as he would lose his base.
Communism may have been “fragmented” or “shattered to a certain degree after the fall of the Soviet Union, but let’s keep in mind that the “pieces” did not go away! They are everywhere just waiting for the opportunity to come together … stronger than before … this is clearly happening today!!!

“We can expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism.” ~ Nikita Krushchev
I think it’s pretty absurd for anyone to suggest that somehow Obama is a Che sympathizer, and should therefore explain himself, because some idiot volunteer (who probably has no idea who Che Guevara is) put up a flag of the SOB in her office.
Guys, we’re in America. We need to accept the fact that there are a lot of ignorant morons here that have no idea who Che is and just see him as “the cool image on the tshirt.”
We loes credibility as a community on a national scale when we make absurd remarks and suggestions like some of the ones that I’ve read here. What we should be doing is supporting people like Humberto Fontova and his great book and make sure that more people read it.

New Obama Campaign Poster.
Cuban Missile,
Dont be ridiculous.

He needs to explain becuase I AM AN AMERICAN VOTER, regardless of whether or not it was he, personally, that drove the nails in the wall to hold that flag up.

and YOU need to accept the fact that here are a lot of people who know EXACTLY who and what che guevara are and that who STILL follow his anti-american preachings. And, if by any small chance these volunteers dont know who he was, then it is up to OBAMA TO TEACH THEM. Something which I am sure will absolutely not happen, given that OBAMA KNOWS PERFECTLY WELL that all of those who like CHE are on his side of the political spectrum.

We lose credibily as a community when we ALLOW OUR CONVICTIONS TO BE DILUTED BY POLITICAL CORRECTNESS OR MANIPULATED BY POPULAR OPINION OR DERAILED BY THOSE MEMBERS OF SAID COMMUNITY WHO BENEFIT FROM A LOSS OF SAID COMMUNITY’S CREDIBILITY.
As for Humberto Fontova, take a look at the sidebar of this blog, under “contributors” and then do a search with his name on this blog. I think our actions here pretty much speak for themselves.
Cuban Missile,
I’m sorry, but this has nothing to do with the credibility of the Cuban community!
Although difficult to accept, I would understand someone wearing a Che t-shirt due to “fashion”, without any awareness of its implications. However, what I find absurd is to allege ignorance when the Che image is superimposed on a flag blatantly displayed in the context of a political campaign office… please!!!
As Val stated, Fontova’s presence is evident in this blog and many others. It’s clear that we can’t sit back and hope that everyone will learn the truth of Che through Fontova’s work … as individuals we also have the responsibility to do our part in “educating” the ignorant about che.
I wish you well 🙂 Melek

Click on my name. Listen to the song, watch the videos, read the articles. People need to wake up. Let’s put a true Conservative back in the White House and regain dignity in this great nation of ours.
And I’m not talking about Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives, or Liberals but “WE THE PEOPLE…” have to be united. Remember this saying, “Divided we Fall” That’s what happened to the vikings, to the huns, the Roman Empire, and all the those whom had dissent in their ranks. We as a nation have be a fortified nation, we have to strengthen ourselves economically, we have to keep our weapons INSIDE the country, we have to make sure no illegal alien gets rewarded for breaking the law by coming here without applying for citizenship. We have to do away with the I.R.S. the Department of Education, we have to stop printing paper money and make gold and silver worth as redeemable legal tender again.
Vaya, y si uno de estos comepingas quiere tratar a attack a nosotros, que se atreve, que los EE.UU lo desaparen de la mapa.
*desaparesen
They can spin this however they want, but this Che flag was NOT put up in that campaign office as a “fashion statement.” We’re not talking Cameron Diaz here. It was put up as an IDEOLOGICAL or POLITICAL statement.
And the spin begins!
Comment left at Politico.com on the chebama flap the usual crap:
Although that news clip gets the anti-Castro crowd all riled up, they don’t exist in the Texas Democratic primary/caucus. There’s obviously a huge non-familiarity with Mexican-American activist culture on the part of those that are expressing (or feigning) outrage over a Che banner in an office in Houston. You would be hard pressed to find a Hispanic organization in the Southwest that doesn’t have Che’s image on the walls, including in the United Farm Workers union offices where they support Clinton. Mexican-Americans are by and large proud that Che and Castro launched the Cuban revolution in the boat Granma from Mexican shores. He’s a symbol of resistance to impositions from above. The culture doesn’t have the politically-correct nature of much of US political discourse that demonizes all things Cuban after 1959. Remember that Mexico has maintained relations and trade with Cuba all along. And whatever excesses Che Guevara committed pale in comparison to what Mexican tyrants backed by Washington have done during these same decades. So the appearance of that image in that TV news spot, if anything, helps more than hurts with the voters being targeted right now in Texas. And if you don’t know that, it’s time to study up.
That chick with the Guevara banner is CUBAN not Mexican.
