lost: castro memo

Penultimos Dias brings us the news that Colombia will be building an Ethanol plant in Cuba. I suppose that the officials in Cuba that have authorized such a venture did not get the memo from fidel that development of biofuels will result in genocide.
Beyond the obvious contradiction here that when the U.S. teams up with Brazil to produce ethanol it’s a very bad thing yet when Cuba does so with Colombia it’s a good thing, I thought that Cuba had “survived peak oil.” Why would Cuba need to develop biofuels when they have worked a miracle and moved the entire country to the 18th century.
